Labour's New Deal for Working People has been constantly eroded since it was first announced by Andy McDonald & Angela Rayner in 2021.

A quick 🧵of every dropped policy. Starting with the most significant: Labour's commitment to a single tier status of worker is now largely gone, replaced with a consultation on simplifying the current system.

@karl_fh explained why this is so significant in this @tribunemagazine piece 👇

Wilma Brown was until today Labour's Parliamentary candidate in Cowdenbeath & Kirkcaldy.

She's now been suspended for racist tweets.

But Labour's Leadership claim to have a 'robust due diligence' system in place to ensure 'high quality candidates'.

So what went wrong? A🧵 For two years, left-wingers have been blocked from Labour selections en masse, not even allowed to compete.

Some reasons cited:
- protesting the Iraq war
- calling on Labour to be bolder in its economic policy
- liking a Nicola Sturgeon tweet re testing -ve for covid

Labour-affiliated unions are today sounding the alarm on Labour's online voting system, Anonyvoter.

It follows a jaw-dropping Telegraph investigation into alleged vote-rigging in Labour's Parliamentary selections.

But what is Anonyvoter, and how is it being abused? A 🧵 Image Anonyvoter is a piece of software used to conduct online votes.

It's owned & run by Mark & Maddie Henson, via Henson IT Solutions Ltd.

The Hensons are Labour councillors in Croydon, naturally on the Right of the Party.

And that's not all.. Image

Plenty strong in Rayner's speech, plainly a significant step forward from the Tories' anti-worker policies.

However, it remains the case that we are seeing a weakening of Labour's New Deal for Working People agenda, and key questions remain unanswered. A 🧵 Firstly, as has been widely reported, the Labour Leadership looks to be backtracking on its plans for a single status of worker, per the FT out of concern for its big business charm offensive.

Labour want to appoint a diversity tsar to encourage under-represented groups to run as MPs.

A thread of all the working-class socialists, women and socialists of colour blocked from Parliamentary selections by Starmer's authoritarian Labour machine 🧵
theguardian.com/politics/2023/… First up, Maya Evans, the deputy leader of Hastings Council, the first woman of colour on Hastings Borough Council, & the first person of colour to reach a senior leadership position.

Maya is also a long-time peace & veteran activist. Blocked by Starmer. labourhub.org.uk/2022/06/21/sta…

This article is doing the rounds.

So it's worth interrogating its dubious claims on the supposed radicalism of Starmer's Labour. A thread 🧵
theguardian.com/commentisfree/… Let's start with the first & biggest commitment cited: Labour's £28bn climate annual investment pledge.

It is indeed a sizeable commitment, not to be sniffed at. But its depiction as larger than the Corbyn proposals is wrong on multiple fronts 👇

What's going on with Labour's Parliamentary Selections?

A 🧵 on Starmer's purge and the implications for Britain's democracy...
telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/… Labour is in the process of selecting its Prospective Parliamentary Candidates for the next General Election, with the NEC signing off batches of seats.

Per Michael Crick's useful blog, only ONE out of the firsty FORTY can be classified as left-wing. Why?

Policy detail isn't the clearest, so here's a little thread of the policy commitments dropped or watered down in Labour's green recovery plan...

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi… *Decarbonisation target*

In effect the report abandons the 2030 decarbonisation target mandated by Conference (unmentioned). In several places it embraces the net-zero 2050 target or policies in line with it. The level of ambition is majorly reduced from Labour's 2019 manifesto.
