Inventing meatless, dairy-free, etc. substitutes for foods isn’t anything new. In fact, in medieval Europe people got pretty creative during lent and fasts. 1/
For example, Christians were forbidden to eat poultry during fasts. 𝐻𝑜𝓌𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇, due to general ignorance of goose migration patterns, they believed that some breeds of geese were born from barnacles. Therefore they were not poultry at all but fish, and could be eaten. 2/
