A source involved in the discussions said it is up to WH who can participate, but emphasized how untested the entire situation is given status of House House Intelligence Committee is also working to secure a classified briefing about the unfolding situation in Israel, source tells me, which can occur even without an elected Speaker.

New: House Judiciary GOP have subpoenaed CEOs of Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, and Microsoft for information about their companies’ communications with the executive branch over how their content is moderated. The move by committee Chairman Jim Jordan is a notable escalation as part of the House GOP’s effort to prove that big tech companies have colluded with the federal government to suppress conservative voices.

Bennie Thompson says 1/6 committee is "close to putting pens down" on final report, will have 8 chapters, doubts it will be done by 12/16 but "good possibility" out before Christmas.

Thompson says "we have not decided how we will release the report" so a hearing is undecided Thompson said if the panel does decide to issue criminal referrals, which he says is “still under consideration,” it will be “done separately” from the final report but will be considered “an official action of the committee.”

Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, who chairs 1/6 committee said the “goal” for the committee’s next hearing is September 28.
 
“That’s the goal at this point” Thompson said. “If it happens it will be that date, but we’re not sure at this point.” January 6 committee members and staff just wrapped an over 4 hour closed door meeting at the Capitol, as the panel continues to weigh a number of important decisions.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren told me that former President Donald Trump’s deputy White House Chief of Staff Tony Ornato and Trump’s former Secret Service lead agent Robert Engel have both retained private counsel to engage with the January 6 committee. Lofgren confirmed that the driver of Trump’s motorcade also has retained private counsel, which CNN has previously reported.

Wild exchange between Jamie Raskin and Andrew Clyde during rules committee meeting just now. Raskin asked Clyde if he still stood by his statement calling 1/6 "normal tourist visit" and read out Clyde's entire statement.

Clyde: "I stand by that exact statement as I said it.” This came after Raskin asked Clyde initially if he stood by his initial statements and Clyde said he wanted Raskin to read his whole statement. Raskin came prepared and read the whole quote out loud.

NEW: In a sign of fallout among House Republicans over being vetoed from the January 6 select committee, three sources tell CNN that all six Republicans House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy designated to serve on a key select committee on the economy are pulling out. None of McCarthy’s initial appointments to the select committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth will be joining that committee’s first meeting this week, a lawmaker familiar with the committee told CNN.

NEW: 9 GOP members were w/Trump at the border but still had their votes count bc they proxy voted, allowing a colleague to vote on their behalf. The problem? Proxy voting requires members to sign a letter citing the pandemic as the reason they miss the vote. Then we dug for data: Even though GOP leadership is against proxy voting, 37% of Rs have bucked their party's stance & used it at least once. Members of the GOP even filed a lawsuit against proxy voting but 40 of the initial plaintiffs have voted via proxy, a total of 734 collective votes among them.
