I went and read the article to form my own opinion. It's a bad article. At no point does the framing consider that correlation is not causation: the stormers were mainly in financial trouble because their businesses cheated on taxes, which is often a highly ideological decision. If we really want to understand white right wing movements, we have to look at them from a complicated and multifactorial perspective that includes an interplay between material economic issues, personal psychology and ideology. Journalists are often not equipped to do this...

I don't wanna be anti-intellectual and say ALL deconstruction or Derridean-inspired theory is bad/wrong. But I believe the exact inverse of the right-wing cliché: it decreased leftwing political militancy in US universities. So now we're taking our revenge on the French hehe The white French like to think of themselves as universal subjects, but their culture is a global outlier and tends to produce thinkers who fetishize disembodied logic. They were pretty successfully at exporting it around the world both colonially and non-colonially.

There's some good discussion going on here under this tweet. I just want to add that the effects of going to prison on rightwingers are a mixed bag and can go in a lot of different directions so I'm gonna talk about a range of different possible outcomes. Prison is a big economic hit and often knocks middle class people down to working class after they get out. However, race ameliorates this effect, and studies show even white men who go to prison and come out with a record have better job prospects than Black men who don't.

Because it's easier to excuse a political lack of success for your chosen ideology by casting an opponent as a Machiavellian supervillain. The simple reality is that not even the percentage of the Dem party that are actual elite neoliberal operatives are even that competent. Complaints about the Dem Party from the left and purity standards involving distance from the Dem Party aren't really about the Dem Party: they're about the compromises involved in accessing power and mass appeal. The dynamic is similar in other countries as well.

So here's the public text of the student comments on McNeil that the Daily Beast already reported last week. The students are pretty clear in what they say. The right-wing outrage machine is probably busy tracking these students down so keep that in mind. thedailybeast.com/star-new-york-… "'I expect immediate action on the actions taken by Donald, I am deeply disappointed about the New York Times because of the comments he made during our trip. I think firing him would even be appropriate,' one participant wrote."

A week ago I said Ford Fischer was the PR arm of the Booger movement, and he showed up in my mentions to "respectfully disagree" lol. And now he's boosting their event and giving it a hundred times the Twitter views. What a disingenuous piece of shit. Ford Fischer's entire business model is based on reading "The Oxygen of Amplification" and then doing exactly the opposite of what it says. datasociety.net/library/oxygen…

Yep. “Ally” should only ever be a verb, because turning it into an isolated static identity only leads to hypocrisy and complacency. Nobody ever “is” an ally, everyone should always just try our best and rely on actions to prove our intentions, rather than restating empty claims. People are reading that tweet as “no cis person can ever help or be friends with a trans person” and I absolutely don’t read it that way, but I’ve also been skeptical for a long time that “allies” should even exist. It’s a bad linguistic-political trend and I wanna reverse it.

I’m on a thread getting brigaded by Black Hammer now and it’s so sad because these people just don’t understand how cultlike their mentality is. Like they keep saying Gazi Kodzo is unanimously supported. He’s unanimously supported because anyone who disagrees gets kicked out! The “unanimous support” is not a good thing. It’s a massive red flag. So is this commune they’re trying to start up in Florida.

So Nazis are posting about Black serial killer Samuel Little and claiming that "all serial killers are white" is an anti-white myth. So it's time for debunking. Yes, it's a myth that all serial killers are white, but it's a myth that only serves white supremacy. (thread) Any serious sociological study will show that when controlled for other factors, the rates of seral murder are pretty evenly dispersed across ethnicity in the US. Murder is linked strongly to gender however, both in the US and worldwide - men always murder much more than women.

Antifascists have doxxed SO MANY trust fund Nazis, and fash-friendly dipshits like Glenn Greenwald still keep writing them off as "meth heads from Idaho." Rich white guys (like GG) love to derail onto stereotypical poor white rural people so they never have to blame their own. State Department Nazi Matthew Gebert is just a poor little hapless "meth head in Idaho" (according to Glenn).

Hey everybody on the left snarking on this Black antifascist who put themselves in harm's way to defend medics against Threepers... because they don't have sights on their AR? Mail them some BUIS or STFU. This is real life not "r/ratemykit". You're petty and you should feel bad. We already clowned on Jake Hanrahan yesterday for this shit but he wasn't the only one doing it. And I'd also like to give a special "fuck you" to the people who assumed all the people in the pic were white.

What regressive "marketplace of ideas/freeze speech!" dumbasses like ContraPoints and Greenwald don't get is that when it comes to deplatforming & the information war, antifascists are in a four-way fight against 1) fascists and bigots 2) the social media companies 3) the state. It should be obvious that deplatforming fascists doesn't fuel social media censorship against the left, because they'd censor the left regardless. In fact, the practice of deplatforming fascists points out the structural and profit-motivated biases of social media moderation—

The University of Wisconsin students have an overlapping set of concerns about CV Vitolo-Haddad platforming fascists offline, on campus, but since I got tagged in the quoted thread, I'm going to explain how they platformed fascists online. Thread. Considering the potential audience, this thread is for educating people who are starting from a fairly blank slate. Starting with definitions, because fascist and Nazi have different definitions varying by context (as do other political words like "democrat" or "socialist").

I’ve been warning people for more than a year not to trust CV Vitolo-Haddad because so much of how they presented themselves was hypocritical and deeply conflicting, but I’m just as shocked as everyone else by their racefaking and blackfacing. I’m gonna do a messy thread... ... over the course of the day, to try and turn this fucked up shit into some kind of useful advice. I do have a fair amount of experience in racefaking exposure campaigns dating back to Peter Coffin’s fake Japanese girlfriend days.

Quick thread on the "National Justice Party", a Nazbol joke party just launched by the usual losers from the website "The Right Stuff" and also the spectacularly failed Traditionalist Workers Party. Let's go through the Nazi clown car from left to right. On the left is Eric Striker/Joseph Jordan, AKA "Burger King". He runs the supposedly unassociated National Justice "news" site, cranking out Holocaust denial and Nazbol rants. He also superstans "left" cryptofash like Aimee Terese & Anna Khachiyan. splcenter.org/hatewatch/2019…

I'll try to simplify in a thread. The push to capitalize Black, spearheaded by Black people, has been underway for many decades. The capital letter is not simply a random linguistic power grab. It depends on an important argument about the difference between race and ethnicity. The modern conception of race is very different from ethnicity and is also inseparable from whiteness. Race is a category imposed from the outside. Ethnicity is positive, it's what you grew up with: your foodways, body language, art, customs.

There's a lot of misinformation out there about how antifascists treat former fascists and white supremacists. Which is too bad, because it's actually one of the few things that antifascists have a strong and simple consensus on... 1. Make sure they made a clean break 2. Put them in touch with other former fascists and white supremacists 3. Leave them alone.
