My greatest fear is coming true. I fear we are just weeks away from some of the scenarios we explored in our med school ethics classes, but never seriously thought we would really ever have to face. 1/
I'm talking about rationing care in a limited resource environment. ICU beds. Ventilators. It's already happening on a smaller scale. First non-urgent surgeries. Then non-cancer surgeries. Then cancer surgeries. 2/

The problem with the pandemic theater that our conservative premiers put on is that it doesn't work.
COVID doesn't care you've closed gyms, and limited places to 15% of fire code (which in a grocery store is still 100's of people). It'll find other places to spread. 1/
COVID doesn't care if you're blaming imaginary kids birthday parties.
COVID doesn't care if you're withholding the names of businesses that are infected.
COVID doesn't care if you "don't have the data", and deny it's spreading in schools. It will continue to do so. 2/

THREAD: I've been very conflicted about the ratification vote for the tentative agreement btw the AMA and govt. I've changed my mind many times.
Lets be honest. It's not a great agreement. It's not even a good one. But I'm not oblivious to the financial state AB is in. 1/
Our financial situation is certainly not my doing. But my stance has never been about money. I've said before I'm more than willing to take a pay cut. I sincerely mean that, and still am, if the AMA and physicians were welcomed as real partners at the table. 2/

Short Thread 👇
Lets call a spade a spade. School is important. I want to see schools reopened also. But safely.
But what's not being said enough, is that part of the agenda driving schools to reopen, is to get parents back to work. 1/
I don't expect our government to say this, but in additions to building the foundations for our kids future, teachers also don't get the recognition they deserve in carrying our economy. Lets not pretend this isn't at least part of the UCP agenda in reopening schools. 2/

"The design of the contract would be such that it becomes financially very, very punitive for the government to rip it up," McKee said, assuring the surgeons that it would not cost them any money if a future government ended the contract. 1/
"To the contrary, he said the contract would seek to ensure the surgeons would profit."
So here it is. The beginning of American style for profit healthcare. 2/

Thread.
The reason I would never sign a contract with this government has nothing to do with money. It's about a complete lack of trust. When contracts aren't contracts, their is no partnership, and the minister has declared open war on this provinces physicians. 1/
But the government loves to make this about money, and is in fact about to release a 'sunshine list' with what doctors make, which will undoubtably show GROSS billings, and not NET. Because that's how they roll, and they want to convince you docs are greedy 2/
