You don't actually have to watch Pretty Cure. You can watch an old authentic magical girl show for girls or you can watch a more modern magical girl show for adults like Lyrical Shoujo Nanoha, or golden age stuff like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura.

Pretty Cure is Tokusatsu. IF you're really big into Tokusatsu, especially Kamen Rider, you might enjoy Pretty Cure which is a sister series to KR and Super Sentai. The series direction was to be a series where "the boys don't just leave the room cause it's their sister's turn on the TV".

Monogatari series is a very "low-key" anime. It is decidedly sober and analytical and doesn't degrade the material with sensationalist depictions. That provides the series some youthful "unreality" to its events that keeps them from taking hold when it comes to judging characters Yes, Hanekawa subconsciously tried to kill her adoptive parents through Kuro Hanekawa. Yes, Kanbaru wanted to and tried to murder Araragi. Yes, Nadeko planned to and attempted to murder almost the entire cast. Yes, Karen beat Koyomi so viciously it would have killed a man.

Still one of the only anime where Miyuki Sawashiro gets to play her role using her naturally sweet and silky voice instead of being typecast into an aggressive tomboy role or gimmicky sassy child role. All shows like this are a special treat. She really is a legend. In the Monogatari Cast Interviews, Sawashiro serves as an interviewer along with Kamiya and many of the actresses sound like their characters. Sawashiro uses her "sweet voice" and sounds nothing like Kanbaru. Image

Every scene of the Dark Knight I rewatch further cements my theory that the Joker is a former wetworks Spook the CIA burned in Afghanistan cause he went off the reservation "enjoying his job" too much over there. Probably Army infantry before recruitment, CIA got him after IED. The only "real" thing he says in the entire movie, when he's telling all his stories, is when he talks about a truck of soldiers being blown up by an IED not causing people to bat an eye but a mayor being threatened "everyone loses their minds".

One aspect of 6th generation videogames that I love are the Breasts. You will see a woman in one of those videogames with seemingly perfectly smoothly shaped breasts and then she still has hands where 3 fingers are joined together to save polygon counts. Likewise the guys will have a fully rigged and highly expressive face model and their whole polygon count invested in their face, still only has a boxy thumb, index finger, and a mitten hand.

Someone objected to my statement that Gears of War is "dated to a specific point in time" while Halo was "timeless". I guess I need to elaborate for that audience.

Halo, especially Halo 2 bear the hallmarks of the peaks of science fiction cinema: Aliens, Starship Troopers etc. Halo is crafted with an ancient story, it is an "epic" about events with celestial timeframes and steeped in Christian allegory. What it MEANS to use "Christian Allegory" as a thematic element is that the story being told is 2000 years old. Millenia Old.

"...under no obligations except their customer needs."

This is the part of Steam and Valve that they object to. This is the part they hate about them. They see Steam's userbase as a massive resource that needs to be tapped by a Corporate Board of Directors for shareholders. They want to impose the rule, on Valve and on Steam, that every business decision at Steam must be made "to ensure the profits of the company shareholders" regardless of whether or not those decisions will actually generate profits, they want Steam to have a revolving CEO door.

Yes, Totally Spies was weird for being french. But just going back to any WB show of the era like Batman, Animaniacs and all and you suddenly realize how sterilized and sexless and AWKWARD everything is now. That is what is the worst part is: the Awkwardness. The subject of Romance or Relationships in modern "young person's" western media can't happen now without a lot of bizarre awkwardness around everything like two super heroes or two teenagers both are trying to navigate romance in the context of a CORPORATE OFFICE with HR.

The weird mixed messaging of Cardcaptor Sakura showing in detail Sakura putting on her wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads for safety but then drawing the line at wearing a helmet because it would ruin her cute hair style and she couldn't wear her cute school bonnet. The message is "Safety is important but Not as Important as Fashion" or "What life saved is worth saving if the life it lives isn't worth Living?"

The 12 year old is only there because he accepted the bullying for being a "squeaker" and just never used a mic again and learned how to type quick or puberty hit him like a BelAZ 75710 and he sounds like James St. James and never talks about his age. He's also the brother to one of the guys. Nobody realizes he was twelve till he is the guy who is now 21 and talks about finally getting his first drink and everyone scrambles to back-calculate his age when he showed up.

What is this new line I'm seeing that "incels" or just "men in general" don't understand women because they haven't taken enough "sociology"?

Where did this line of argument start and why did it start? Why sociology? What courses of study within the broader umbrella? This is now the 3rd time I've seen a woman bring up that men need to fix their inability to understand women by taking "sociology courses". Do they mean Psychology? Do they mean "be better socialized"? Has brainrot made them incapable of knowing those words are seperate?

Gundam is the first major franchise to really find broad success by having a core appeal to both guys and girls and was followed by a long line of highly successful series following this archetype: "A girl's story with fanservice for guys"/"a boy's story with fanservice for gals" It is very difficult to make something both Boys and Girls like almost equally. Usually it has to involve cute critters for this to work (pokemon). However, it is shockingly easy to make something that's for "Boys and Women" or for "Girls and Men".

FLCL is a cautionary tale about structuring society in a way that causes kids to become too cool and jaded with everything before they even get to Jr. High. GQuuuuuuX is the true sequel to FLCL as it follows the same themes of youth ennui and disaffection with a society that only seems to present them with dead ends. Image

A think that I like about Tomino's works is that they're not ones that are inspired by or informed by other works of fiction. They are inspired by history, his reading of psychology, and importantly his heavy reading in speculative popular scientific writing of the era. Image The 1960s and 1970s were the heydays of the space race and dozens of essayists were published in periodicals speculating on the future of human life in Space or even full books like "The High Frontier" by Gerard O'Neill, a physics professor at Princeton. Monogatari Series, from Nisioisin and SHAFT, teaches young persons basically two important things:

1.) Mental Illnesses and Personality Disorders of Young Women are caused by Demons and Evil Spirits.

2.) EXACTLY how much men and women need to COMMUNICATE in a relationship. Image If there is exactly one very important takeaway for young persons to learn from Monogatari Series, it is how openly, directly, and strongly Araragi and Senjougahara communicate. How deeply they delve into topics, how much they talk to each other is extremely important.

The biggest struggle of being a Millenial with ADHD is that the world that was literally built for us no longer exists. The world was entirely structured around optimizing for our ability to outsource memory tasks to digital. "Search" and finding information fast was our thing. For the boomers it was memorizing "literally everything" having everything known. If you couldn't you were useless, mostly. Then for our generation it was knowing where and how to find the correct information the fastest. Whole search engine algorithms were built and trained.

So 10 seconds ago I was talking about how Clamp's Magic Knight Rayearth and Cardcaptor respectively capture the Zeitgeist of the post-1989 Nikkei collapse and the Y2K run-up era.

Lyrical Shoujo Nanoha, a direct derivative work of CCS, does the exact same thing but for Post-9/11 Even the OP captures that mid 2000s era perfectly, a world of uneasy thoughts, heavy emotions, and the 24hr news cycle.

What's Nanoha about? Child Abuse, Child Neglect, Interdimensional Counter-Terrorism, and Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Real Hot Take: actually Johnny Bravo and a lot of the cartoons haven't aged that well and you're blinded by tiktok era edits of the best parts and funniest moments.

A lot of these shows have an over-reliance on certain programing gimmicks which makes re-watching a slog. Even Samurai Jack suffers from this along with most things from the Genndy Era. You didn't notice it as a kid but they're not as good watching as an adult.

Mahou Shoujo is for General Audiences. Mahou Shoujo is "slice of life", "cute girls doing cute things" anime, interrupted by cool fight scenes and with an emotional fight agains the "big bad" from a tokusatsu or Shonen anime at the end of the season. Everyone can enjoy it. It has "girls living every day life" that little girls can relate to. It has pretty boys that older girls like. It has girl super heroes that they can look up to. It has cute girls doing cute things which guys like. It has cool fight scenes and neat monsters which guys like.

A while back I talked about why the "rich man" has trouble getting into Heaven being a matter of "Pride" and not "Greed" as his Deadly Sin.

Finally I have found a perfect example of what "greed" truly is and it's this boomer right here.

I got distracted from this analysis. Covetousness and Envy are the roots of Greed. To take that which belongs to others, to stake claim to, and to Deny to others that which is rightfully theirs is the nature of Greed. This boomer shows up and ruins a hunt on public land.
