When "A Fish Called Sandy" leaked months ago, this episode immediately got an incredibly warm reception for being an emulation of "classic SpongeBob." But, is that really an accurate conclusion, and does the episode offer anything beyond that...? 🧵 Most obviously, the character drawings in this episode are intentionally emulating s1 (more of a vibe thing than an exact "copy" of the style). SpongeBob has his old upturned cheeks from the early episodes.
