What is your take on this piece, please? Personally, I have interviewed and tested hundreds of people who have glowing CVs but many could not pass the knowledge tests or demonstrate competence in other ways. While Indian graduates may not speak good English, their universities... ...are functioning better than Nigerian universities; their graduates are more skilled and able to compete globally against graduates from other countries. Tertiary institutions in Nigeria need to connect with industry immediately to upgrade.

Some time ago, when I first started heading a school in Kano, I had a mother cry in my office that since her divorce she hardly got to see her sons and that her ex-hubby, a busy businessman, had blocked her number. The sons' grades started dropping and the father came storming... ...into my office to demand to know why his sons were declining academically (and behaviourally). We had a long chat that day about parenting and how a child's life at home and inner world affects their capacity to focus, learn and build relationships. He said that fixing the...

Young women and girls in Nigeria, out of for cash, are repeatedly visiting fertility clinics through the back door to have their eggs harvested. Companies may collect more than 1.5m from rich clients, and pay the girls N100k-120k for each harvest

My recommendations for Kano:

- Do not fall into the ugly pattern of targeting people of other parties. Focus on the priorities.
- Review all development approvals and reconstruct a proper development plan for every LGA, with community spaces and conservation areas.
- Develop aā€¦ ā€¦masterplan for teacher and midwife training for all LGAs, and a full needs assessment for the health care and education sectors. Consider sustainable funding solutions and ways to reduce burnout of health care professionals.
- Develop biometric approaches to handling civilā€¦

Over a decade ago, a girlsā€™ scholarship scheme run by my NGO, with initially just a single donor from Kogi state, began placing high-performing girls from very underprivileged backgrounds into good private schools, then supplemented with extra lessons, mentoring, excursions andā€¦ ā€¦access to successful female icons. While there was some attrition, the girls generally thrived. Their parents and community were, of course, supported also. The project was long term. It supported the girls throughout secondary school, then university until the end of Masters..

Claims that tribalist utterances made by an extremist follower represents the views of a candidate is cherry picking for political opportunism. Deliberately stoking tribal hatred, fear and generalisations is exactly what occurred prior to genocides that turned neighbour against.. ā€¦neighbour; something the people of those nations never believed could occur. The damage done from the rhetoric this election season in Lagos will take a long time to undo. For a supposedly progressive city, it took surprisingly very little time to regress.

The work ahead for Nigeriaā€™s new leadership will be stupendously difficult. Here are some areas that must have immediate focus:

1. Healing the fault lines. The new administration must shun sectionalism and reach out to all Nigerians, of all ethnic groups and all classesā€¦ ā€¦Appointments should not be given as rewards for campaign investments or ā€œloyaltyā€ but consider those who have the most competence irrespective of region or party affiliation. Appointments should also be given to younger, dynamic professionals, women and people with disabilities

Good interview. The situation is disappointing even for observers. APC members on this app would do well to enjoy their wins but not continue to deny the problems of this election, stoke the fire of ethno-religious sentiments and even shamelessly praise actions of their ally,ā€¦ ā€¦Emperor Wike. While it is a large country, it is also a small country when it comes to gossip. Know that some of your own insiders leak information that turn people against any good work you have done. The political class must understand that the class struggle overrides votersā€™ concerns even though they try to use religion and ethnicity to divide people. Foisting candidates who brandish their high life and a history of questionable financial dealings at a time of extremeā€¦ ā€¦hardship for the masses is demoralising. It leads to voter apathy or resistance. It drives them towards other candidates who seem to have more empathy and seem less inclined to just help themselves and their boys. Instead of fermenting more despicable identity politics, listen.

*CONSEQUENCES OF EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS*
by Sh. Nuruddeen Lemu, Daā€˜wah Institute of Nigeria

ā€”-Threadā€”-

If we continue to defend and justify people who take the law into their own hands, because we feel so hurt by the words and actions of others (against Islam or our beloved Prophet - pbuh), and because we don't trust the justice system, we will find it very difficult to blame any violent ethnic or religious group in Nigeria who also take the law into their own hands because they too feel aggrieved by the words and actions of othersā€¦

For 10 years I lived in a bubble before I truly understood the real Nigeria and the daily struggles of the majority. I set up an entire NGO and was doing charity for those 10 years but still lived in ignorance and inability to truly empathise. There is nothing as educational asā€¦ ..first hand experience. The elite that rule have lived much of their lives in that bubble. I grew up mainly in the Caribbean islands, outdoors in the sun. A neighbour and I taught ourselves how to swim at the age of 5 and the pool was our daily hangout as kids. My dear late father, one of the most revered modern Maliki shaykhs in Nigeria, used to give examples of how a little religious knowledge in the wrong hands can be dangerous. People can create their own rulings through cherry picking and failure to apply sound methodologyā€¦ ā€¦After being appointed by former President Jonathan to a panel to dialogue with captured BH fighters, he would often ask them why they carried out such heinous acts against people. One of our greatest challenges in the North is ignorance and general reluctance of our religious teachers to define and distinguish between conscientious objection, social defiance, advocacy, protest, political resistance to injustice, opposition, armed rebellion and seditionā€¦ ā€¦The conflation of these issues is often done by referring to bloodshed and strife created by rebel groups in Muslim history. Physical size doesnā€™t always matter.
