I’ve woken up this morning still in utter disbelieve and shock at what @PennyMordaunt said to me last night on @LBC
“what you’ve said, Nicola, is not a reflection of my position at any time”
I had asked her about her support for self-ID GRA reform /1

As ex-minister for women and equalities @PennyMordaunt is well known amongst women as a strong supporter of self-ID. Now she’s running for leader she’s trying to rewrite history.
“I’ve never supported self-ID” /2

Last year I travelled to Switzerland to join a policy meeting about trans inclusion in sport. Senior reps from all the main sports were there, so was the IOC. In a room of 30+ I was the only person arguing for safety and fairness for women and girls /1
For 8 long hours I argued every point. Some were cross with me. Some dismissed me. Some told me not to speak. Some told me not to use the word male when I speak about transwomen. I carried on. Saying the things they didn't want to face up to. /2

WHY I DO WHAT I DO. Three years ago a friend told me about some discussions happening on mumsnet. Women were getting called ‘terfs’ and ‘transphobic’ for saying men can’t be women and lesbians don’t have a penis. I was bemused and intrigued /1
I read lots, watched Magdalen Burns, joined some on-line groups, spoke to friends. I peak trans’ed. I saw no transphobia - these were the real-life concerns of women and the conflict of rights was obvious. /2
