@GeoffYoung4KY That's wrong: Iran had instigated the war with Iraq, with Khomeini openly calling for Saddam's overthrow from 1979 onwards. As early as April 1980, Khomeini called for overthrowing Saddam and promised "military help," which was tantamount to a declaration of war. @GeoffYoung4KY From December 1979 to September 1980, Iran carried out some 275 air and border violations against Iraq before Saddam's Iraq retaliated militarily on September 22, 1980.
