Has anyone else noticed that the small sample of 3 out of dozens of new, smaller reactor designs includes one whose owner stopped promoting it almost a decade ago? (Toshiba 4S)

@JTDurrani
chemistryworld.com/news/the-next-… Interesting statement for a study concluding that modern reactors will have a LARGER waste problem.
(Last paragraph Section 2.4)
"This study also neglects to consider reprocessing, recycling, and dilution..."

Yesterday, my tweet about China's plan to convert hundreds of coal burning power plants to nuclear plants vy replacing furnaces with high temperature reactors got some attention.
Though I've been following project for years, here is sourcing info for yesterday's announcement Many commenters don't fully get mass production nature of the plan. Heat sources for a wide range of plant sizes will all use identical 250 MWth HTR modules. Fuel inside modules is in form of identical 6 cm diameter "pebbles". Little or no structure inside pressure vessel

Nuclear power plants in US produce electricity at an average production cost less than 3 cents/kWh. Most owners would be happy to sign long term PPAs priced at ~6 cents/kWh as long as most of their output was purchased whenever available. That is a fair and reasonable price. As a career Nuke with some intense manufacturing experience outside of nuclear industry, I get frustrated with current cost arguments. There are countless examples of excessively costly activities & equipment, but most aren’t uncorrectable.

Marie Curie was an amazing scientist and mother of two talented and accomplished daughters.
This short clip reinforces misunderstood nature of her radiation work and its effect on her overall health.
It provides visual clues that should lead to improved understanding @iaeaorg Mme Curie was a cautious scientist who understood that the penetrating nature of radiation could cause harmful health effects. She was known to have been a voracious reader, especially about her special interest area.

Wonder who told Greg Jaczko and his publisher that this statement was a valuable use of tightly limited "author blurb" space.
"Jaczko is now an adjunct professor at Princeton University and Georgetown University, and an entrepreneur with a clean energy development company." Though I'm grateful for the honest, enlightening statement of his glaring conflicts of interest in hawking a book denigrating the most capable source of clean energy in the market, it makes me wonder what the advisors were thinking.
