Our hospital floor is full and we need open beds for the imminent COVID surge.

But multiple patients of mine can’t leave the hospital because they’re awaiting prior auths from commercial insurers.

Insurance companies are clogging up the system in the middle of a damn pandemic. This pandemic will expose global health inequities. It will also reveal the U.S. health system's inefficiencies, spaces where greed often dictates health care.

To beat COVID, yes, social distance and wash hands. We must also pressure those whose place profits over patients.

The AMA just left the @P4AHCF. This is a huge win. It also didn't happen overnight.

Comprised of health industry groups, including private insurers and pharmaceutical companies, they shared opposition against Medicare for All (and any Medicare expansion.) I’ve been a doctor for two days.

I’ve now cared for two patients who can’t afford a needed medication due to high copays.

Is this a daily thing or...? For those interested, some studies suggest copay spending may in fact be shrinking.

But the rise of cost shifting overall, via deductibles and other mechanisms, is horribly out of control. healthsystemtracker.org/brief/payments…
