We joke but I get it. The Queen, politically, is functionally useless. Her actual job, which she clearly did well, was to just make Britons feel good about themselves for almost 100 years. 67 million people will never have this privilege again No one, probably not even the Queen herself, ever expected her to live this long. So now there’s no concept of a modern monarchy after her, and once she’s gone it will be even harder to reconcile the 21st century with how utterly silly this all is.

Why on earth do people believe that Republicans still care about this? This was a goal they spent decade working toward for their constituents. It’s the fundamental failure of Democrats; they legitimately don’t believe they’re actually elected to do things. Unlike Democrats, Republicans actually believe in exercising power when they have it, and the result is they don’t actually care about anything they do being unpopular because they’re about 95% of the way to elections not mattering anymore

It is just so annoying how obvious this fake ignorance is. A Democrat also won most of the votes in the first round. Emmer is just arguing that the only electoral system that is acceptable is the one where Republicans get to win, but for this election only. “Voted for the Republican agenda” is a very weird way of pretending that multiple candidates, you know, individual human beings who are the things you are actually voting for, were all one person.

Watched the premiere of The Ghost and Molly McGee and it absolutely falls into the column of “cartoons you are not going to argue your way into being something secretly deep with hidden adult themes and undertones” It’s a cartoon for little kids, but it’s adorable. I know it’s cliché but it definitely falls into that field of “a show done well enough that parents will not go insane dealing with having to listen to their kids watch it over and over again” so there’s that.

The problem with Sinema isn’t that she’s a narcissist (she is). The problem is she’s legitimately incompetent. I know “doesn’t know how Washington works” is cliché, but when you literally don’t know how to do your job so you just… don’t do it, this is what happens. Sinema has no insight into policy beyond believing that making headlines about not letting legislation her donors don’t like pass is all she needs to do. That’s not genius machinations, that’s just being a henchman. Like 60’s Batman level oaf here.

I just finally saw the Space Jam trailer and frankly I’m kind of stunned by how much it just... depressed me. Just utterly taken aback by the sheer corporate-synergy-per-square-foot of it all, and that’s even factoring in that it’s SPACE JAM. Like, even by “well every movie is just a brand vehicle now” standards, it’s sad to be in this era where four companies own all of our media and their response to that is to just go “every movie is now Referencing Our Brand: The Movie”

It’s frustrating how many people are responding to this with stuff like “we’re doomed” or “society is screwed” and it’s like... you can literally fix this in an afternoon. You just need to have the wherewithal to pass a vacancy tax. Yes, on a procedural level, I understand that’s a long way of saying “we’re screwed” because of how unlikely it is. But it’s not like, you know, a meteor hurtling toward the earth or something. There is literally a tangible way to fix this, almost instantly.

Look if conservatives want to own me by reminding me that Ben is a very successful conservative, cool, he still looks, sounds, and talks like the “let me at ‘em” cartoon puppy with this stuff

It’s weird how many people think when I point out the Democrats are going to be annihilated in 2022, they think it’s just pessimism or doomsaying or something like that. And that’s on them. From an actuarial perspective, Democrats have already lost Congress: First of all, basically every state where Republicans control the legislature will be redistricting this year to guarantee as many Republican pickups as possible. That is baked in. There is no way to stop this other than federal legislation, which can’t pass, because filibuster.

I keep seeing people argue that “Democrats failed us again” and man, I’d LOVE to see Democrats actually fail us. Failure implies trying to do something and not succeeding.

Democrats didn’t fail us, they abandoned us. I have no idea what’s going to happen in the runoff next week and honestly as of this morning I no longer care. If the Dems win it will quite literally change nothing, and if they lose after their stunt last night it will be, to be clear, incredibly fucking funny

A lot of people have made the no-shit observation that this is the start of Hawley’s presidential campaign, but color me pessimistic—he’s pretty much in a 24 hour period made enemies with the entire Republican Senate caucus and look how well that went for Ted Cruz The entire strategy here appears to be make the headlines and make money first and as fast as possible to shut out other nominees which is of course a doomed idea, at least 20 Republicans are running in 2024, minimum

I’m going to be honest here, these numbers appear good but at the same time they… Don’t really appear good enough. Perdue beat Ossoff by 88,000 votes in the general. Let’s say with 80k new voters and a very generous pro-Dem lean of 75%: that’s a 40k net gain for Ossoff. Barely half of what he needs.

From most of the reviews I'm reading WW84 is a massive casualty of lacking the theater experience in that viewers have instead been left to contemplate the logic and quality of these movies and realizing there is none immediately, instead of hours after leaving the theater Like imagine if you watched Rise of Skywalker in a setting where you could literally stop at every scene, open your laptop or take out your phone, and immediately address how dumb the thing that just happened was. This is going to kill the entire studio blockbuster model

Pearson is a legally registered voter in the state of Alabama. The fact that “alternate slates” of electors chosen by the losing party don’t actually exist is the only reason he is not literally committing election fraud right now. Again, this is not an actual political debate of differing opinions. You can look up state voter registrations. If anything Pearson was doing right now was real, he would be going to prison for it.

I have lived my entire life in a media narrative that Republicans are simply not supposed to face any consequences for their actions and what we have been witnessing for the last 48 hours is the result of a media completely unequipped to handle exactly that happening I think that’s why there’s such a cognitive dissonance between how punditry is reacting to this versus, well, basically the rest of the planet. Look at the backlash to that pathetic Twitter announcement. People are done. They are fucking done with this bullshit
