Alain Delon was part of a larger cultural universe.

Americans are only exposed to the worst of French culture (Derrida, Sartre) in college.

There is a Right leaning corpus of French works that is immensely superior to the French Left's garbage.

Some of my favourites 🧵 1/ Voyage au bout de la nuit (1935) by Louis-Ferdinand Céline.

Easily the best novel of the 20th century. It's an exploration of the psychosis of interwar French society.

Stylistically exceptional - a must read for all aspiring writers. Image

But through self-education, course correction and determination he defeated two empires

palladiummag.com/2023/01/20/vie… This was a secondary thread in my latest @palladiummag piece that I would have liked to explore.

While doing research for this piece, I was profoundly marked by the Giap's and Ho's belief that they could attain high levels of proficiency in skills simply by developing them. Image

There is debate raging about architecture in the West framed as traditionalist vs modernist.

This is false dichotomy. Once you leave the West, you realise that it's just another limitation.

Queue Bill Bensley, possibly the most important architect of the last 20 years 🧵 Probably the greatest living architect in Southeast Asia and one I would point to as an example of overcoming this false dichotomy and moving beyond modernist and traditionalist labels.

He works primarily on luxury hotels.
