In a small, touristy town in NW Australia, white taxi driver takes moment to explain to me their “Indigenous problem” which I will spare you, but was basically “they are drunks”. I say nothing.

Him: “So have you had any run-ins with Indigenous people?”

😂 Sir! I am the run-in. Seriously it’s exhausting. I just want to get to my AirBnB without racism, please.

Just overheard a 9 yro boy talking to his 4/5 yro brother. The little one says pink is a girl color.

Big bro: Pink isn’t a girl color. Colors are colors. I like pink highlighters, that doesn’t make me a girl. And I know a boy named Lucas who likes purple. Colors aren’t a gender The little brother listened intently and then said: Well I like green because it’s the color of leaves.

Big bro: ok but that doesn’t mean green is a boy color just because you like it.

Little bro: *continues talking about leaves*

😂 I mean I hope he got the lesson.

Y’all don’t realize we literally stopped everything to help them because we were concerned. This meme is from indigenousshitposting on IG and you really should be following them.

Sometimes I think abt my white friends whose parents helped them w their rent/to buy their first apartment/house. Some even gave them money for stocks as teens. And this was middle class.

Meanwhile EVERY Black/Indigenous young adult I know is helped their siblings/parents. And I come from a family where my grandparents went to college and were professionals. But still, every personal setback, or economic recession hits us harder. And we don’t make money for ourselves, we use it communally. So the bootstrap thing ain’t gonna work.

I took a class on tarot once out of curiosity, taught by a little old white lady in Brooklyn. She had a few basic rules - one was absolutely NEVER use a deck that only has white people illustrated bc 1. that’s not reality and 2. no spiritual good comes from white supremacy. I went to an interfaith event on race reparations and reconciliation at an Episcopal church. It had been a historically Caribbean church in Bk, now majority white. I got to the mic and said “Look around you. Every panel of stained glass depicts Biblical scenes with white people.”

It’s time we realized that people who believe that over 70% of human beings will be sent to hell to be tortured for all eternity by their loving Creator, may not be capable of making decisions for the public good. They fundamentally believe that anyone who isn’t like them is trash, redeemable trash sure, but only if they become like them. Not just in religious belief (many evangelicals think most Christians aren’t “actual Christians”) but in way of life: cis, white, straight, patriarchal.

Medieval peasants worked only about 150 days out of the year. The Church believed it was important to keep them happy with frequent, mandatory holidays.

You have less free time than a Medieval peasant. Yes, winter happened. But work didn’t stop in the winter for people in agriculture.

Winter is when you rebuilt and mended buildings, and fences, redug ditches, wove the insane amount of rope needed everything, redug ditches, sewed sails, fixed machinery, etc.

I want more Americans to spend time abroad so that they are more reasonably embarrassed about the state of their society. We are like the kid at school who doesn’t realize they need deodorant yet. Part of my point is: the reasons that travel is unaffordable for many Americans are the reasons our society is incredibly behind: no living wage, exorbitant health care/prescription fees, college debt up to our ears, etc. For other countries international travel is normal.

It’s #BlackHistoryMonth and I’ve been slacking on content. But today I want to share something special!
My family recently made a discovery: my mom’s mother, Mabel Ruth Collick, descends from one of the “20-odd Negroes” brought to Jamestown in #1619 the first Africans in America. Image I’ve tweeted a lot about the Dungee/Dungeys, my mom’s paternal side which is the Pamunkey/Mattaponi line that I’ve grown up knowing. But unfortunately, African American family history is notorious difficult to research. I’ve been working on mine for many years.

After going thru 2 years of this pandemic, I’m starting to wonder in the Black Plague can explain how particularly and outrageously violent Euro colonizers/slave traders were in the New World. Watching people fall dead around you every minute maybe made life feel less valuable. It never ended in England. It came back every 10 yrs for 300 yrs. Each new iteration took 20% of the London population. They started killing dogs and cats en masse. In 1665, 100,000 Londoners died in 6 months. All entertainment was shut down and people were locked in their homes

@united my sister is at the airport and she got to the counter and they said her ticket is bought and paid for, she has an eticket confirmation and confirmation number but there is “no booking” so she can’t get on her international flight. It leaves in an hour now. I have been on hold trying to rectify this. She is just standing there and they said they can’t help her.

Lemme tell y’all a few things about Haiti - and why we owe them. A thread. 1. The American Revolution was funded by Haitian money. France gave the American colonies $9Billion to aide the Revolution. France had that money because Haiti was the richest colony in the entire world — richer than the Spanish empire.

Looking at Gabby Petito’s IG, it struck me that she has no photos with anyone but him. There was one from a few years ago with her brother, but that is all. No friends, no family members. That indicates a lot to me. Not to jump to conclusions but isolation is such a common tactic for mental/emotional/physical abusers. It happened to me at that age, and I’m very aware that her fate was nearly my own. It certainly is for many young women like her whose stories don’t get this attention.

Have y’all been to the Heights?!? I lived there and looked like everyone else. People kept coming up to me to hug me and say they knew my mother. The neighborhood is Dominican (as in the same island as Haiti 🙄).

The irony of her last name in this instance is not lost on me. But of course, I didn’t get why we needed Black and Brown people playing the a bunch of colonizers, so maybe I’m just weird.

If you are a woman, and you have a crush on roughly 98 men and 2 women, does that make you 2% gay? Is this science? To be clear, I think women are way too juicy and mushy to actually have sex with. Like, no thanks. But remember Sue from Great British Bake-off? She’s my wife.

Y’all need to stop using white women giving birth to a very dark baby which exposes her adultery with a Black man as a plot point on tv bc that’s not how melanin works. Babies take months to brown up. Lol. Do y’all know any Black people?? We look at the ears and knuckles to predict how dark the baby will develop into. For some reason those areas of skin get browner more quickly. Everything else is pink.

I have a lot of respect for Prince Harry.

I’m going to tell a story here that I never have before. It cut me very deep.

So I was in a 7+ year relationship with a White man. Started in my very early 20s for context, and he was only the 2nd bf I’d ever had. We had a mutual pool of friends. Really they were my HS best friend’s friend group, through her bf/fiancé who was my bf’s brother. I was the only one to go out-of-state for college, but I would come home a lot and hang with them. They were all white except me and one other guy.

The obvious guess is Prince Charles. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was his brother and sister-in-law. hollywoodreporter.com/news/oprah-say… I was in a seven year relationship with a WM and let me tell you, I have stories. This question is VALID.

@JenSloan212 @skwithycombe Yeah this is the part that I had a problem with. The rest seemed like it was more about significant differences in cultural norms and values of Western individualism vs collectivism and how it translates in childrearing. @JenSloan212 @skwithycombe The author was problematic af. Which is unfortunate bc much of what she observed was accurate from my childhood w Black/Indigenous grandparents as primary caretakers.

This is why it’s important for *us* to write about our cultures *ourselves*. The white supremacist lens distorts

Check out my beadwork on IG: @stonesongjewelry
All proceeds in this sale will be donated to the org of the purchaser’s choice. Image I should be more transparent abt this. My mom taught me that all giving should be done in private, so I don’t share.

When you purchase beadwork from me you are giving to Black and Native communities. I give direct cash payments to people in need. Most of the time, anonymously.

The situation is Texas is absolutely abominable. But I want you to also know that this Native community in Alaska has not had water for 35 days. It took @GovDunleavy THREE WEEKS to declare a state of emergency. Well, actually the community declared it themselves. But he still has NOT SENT ANY HELP.

He apparently believes that hauling ice from the river, polluted by nearby gold mining btw, and boiling it is 👌🏾

35 days.
