Here's a book rejection that we just received from a prison in Tennessee: "Malcolm X not allowed."

This is part of an insidious pattern of targeted bans by prisons against Black authors and against literature critiquing the prison system and power structures in this country. Image Another great conversation put out today by @TheRealNews about the ongoing issues of prison censorship.

We just received the banned books list from KDOC & it's unbelievable. Kansas has fewer than 10,000 prisoners, yet more than 7,000 books are banned for them, from "A Clockwork Orange" to "Are Prisons Obsolete?"

RT with the most absurd book you find! bookstoprisoners.net/wp-content/upl… Some books banned for Kansas prisoners:

Cutting for Stone (@cuttingforstone)
The Pursuit of Happyness (@CEOofHappYness)
The Lovely Bones (AGAIN! Just like we found in New Hampshire @BookRiot)
Pretty much everything by @chuckpalahniuk
So many books by Neil Gaiman (@neilhimself)
