- DNA fingerprinting was first used in forensic science in 1986 in the UK to solve a rape case.
-The first person to be convicted on the basis of DNA evidence in the UK was Robert Melias in 1987. In 1996 the US National Research Council’s (NRC)made a report on DNA evidence stating that, “The state of the profiling technology has progressed to the point where the admissibility of properly collected and analyzed DNA data should not be in doubt”.
