The GP workforce figures are out from August and it's not looking good with the NHS loosing the equivalent of 269 fully qualified full-time GPs over the past year. BREAKING: Following a meeting of GPC England today, the committee has agreed to unanimously reject the package of support for general practice proposed by the Government and NHSE/I (1/4)

bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent… The committee is urging LMCs in England not to engage in implementation of the plan, and calls for practices to submit undated notices of withdrawal from the PCN DES to their LMCs, to be served to CCGs once 50% of them have done so (2/4)

We’ve carried out a snap poll of 3500 GPs – and 93% of them have sent the very clear message that the ‘rescue package’ touted by the Health Secretary is an unacceptable response to the current crisis in general practice. 1/4

Sajid Javid told parliament today that GPs must ‘start operating in the way they did before the pandemic and offering face-to-face appointments to everyone who would like one', and that 'more GPs should be offering face-to-face access and we intend to do a lot more about it' 1/5 Comments like this show how far removed he is from the reality of what is happening in GP – as well as highlighting a lack of agreement within Government; the PM says the pandemic is ‘far from over’ while the SoS claims ‘life is starting to return almost to completely normal’ 2/5

The decision to delay follow-up dose of Pfizer vaccine is grossly unfair to thousands of at-risk patients in England, as appointments are rescheduled. It will have a terrible emotional impact on many patients.

Our chair @rvautrey has issued a response (THREAD) 1/7 “This group of very elderly patients are at the highest risk of death if they contract Covid-19 which is why GPs are so concerned for them. It is grossly and patently unfair to tens of thousands of our most at risk patients to now try to reschedule their appointments." 2/7
