In 2009 a wave of campus occupations swept across Calfiornia's public university systems.

Some of the key tactical lessons from that time remain relevant for this moment, as do important lessons about strategic limitations. 🧵

One important lesson is that physical occupations are just one tactic that should be incorporated into a strategy aimed at bringing in ever greater circles within the university and ultimately, beyond it.

In this way, mass democratic assemblies are critical feature. Image

Feeling 'meh' about the midterms?

Let's talk about class independence, anti-parliamentarism, and why the working and dominated classes must build power outside, below, and against of the halls of government. 🧵 Image Class independence is core to the broadly revolutionary socialist, including anarchist, theory of social change.

It’s a concept that asserts the working and dominated classes have to direct our own struggles and ultimately secure our own liberation–– this can't be done for us.

#TheLeftInPower In Chile we're witnessing, in real-time, yet another example of the reactionary and recuperative role that left electoral parties play during popular revolt.

THREAD We wish to issue a clarification to a tweet we made about Noam Chomsky 3 weeks ago. Then, we claimed that @quotes_Chomsky had denied July 1995 Srebrenica massacre, perpetrated by Serbian ultra-nationalists against 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men & boys. While Chomsky has publicly acknowledged that the massacre took place, the controversy has to do with 2 aspects: his continued denial that this war crime constitutes genocide, & related support for @NatCounterPunch writer Diana Johnstone, an apologist for Serbian ultranationalism.

THREAD. Let’s talk about something that the left should become more familiar with: “Campism.” This refers to a worldview which divides the globe up into competing “camps”: US/Western imperialism v. all opponents of US/West, the “anti-imperialist” camp. We wanted to give some examples of how the politics of campism play out in problematic ways on the left, but let’s start w/ defining the concept. Here are links to a helpful article & panel video:
