Hello again! 👋 As I promised yesterday, I am going through some of the frequently asked questions and conspiracy theories following the election as there have been several questions that I have been seeing online that I can provide some definitive answers to. 🧵 Many voters have been asking for ways to check that their votes were counted. For those that voted in-person on Election Day or at their Early Voting location: If you put your ballot in the tabulator, it was counted. No questions.

This is likely a matter of bad reporting coming out of the Bureau of Election FOIA system, and not actually a bad actor.  There is absolutely no way that one person voted 29 times on the same day in the same jurisdiction. Looking at the voter's history, it looks like the report spit out one line for every change or interaction this voter ever had with the SOS (hence multiple lines for some addresses).

Hello. 👋 Yes, please see below. 🧵 The 2020 Census under-counted because of the pandemic and the speed at which they were required to work after Trump's Commerce Secretary delayed it for months.

Hi Michigan Voters!👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here! I’m taking you behind the curtain a little bit today to talk about one of the key safeguards to our election process: Logic & Accuracy Testing. 🧵 Logic & Accuracy Testing is the process by which local clerks test the programming for the tabulators that the County Clerks prepare. Tabulators’ programming tells the tabulator where the ovals are for each race so that the scanner knows where to look for a voter’s vote.

Hi @grassrootarmy and @biggertruth! 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here! Saw your video and, woof, there is so much inaccuracy here I may exceed the thread limit. But let’s see. 🧵 0:02 - When a ballot is mailed out, it is sent by the voter’s LOCAL CLERK, not the Secretary of State. When it is returned to sender, it is returned to the LOCAL CLERK, not an SOS PO Box.

Hi @MikeRogersforMI 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here! I see you misinforming Michigan residents about our Voter ID laws in the State of Michigan and I need to set the record straight here. 🧵 First, if you want what follows in a distilled format, you can watch this PSA I did just a few weeks ago on this very topic:

Hi there, Roger! 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum, here! I saw about your recount request in your County Commission race and thank you for using the legal avenue to verify the results. I did want to discuss the local news bit of your request 🧵
fox17online.com/news/local-new… Recounts are an important and necessary check and balance available to candidates and citizens who are concerned that the results are tabulated correctly. They are enshrined in our state law and are the appropriate venue for handling these concerns.

Hi there! 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum, here. To all of those calling for a change of candidacy in the Presidential Race, please note that the election administration community is going to have some serious issues with that. 🧵 To be clear, Michigan wouldn’t even be the worst of the problems. Our statute requires that a major party’s Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates be certified to the State within one business day of that party’s national or state convention, whichever is later.

We are just under a month before the August Primary Election in Michigan and Absentee Ballots are in our voters’ hands and are already starting to come back in. Image I wanted to take a moment to offer a refresher on what makes the August Primary Election different in Michigan compared to other kinds of elections.

Hi Senator! 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here. I’m surprised we have not crossed paths before given how much is wrong with your statement on Senate Bill 603 and the recent court rulings, but I am always excited to meet new people… 🧵 First of all, and this really couldn’t be less important, but we are the Democratic Party, not the Democrat Party. It’s never been more fitting than now, as we appear to be the only major political party that supports Democracy.

Hi @laraleatrump 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here! I watched your video, and it’s riveting stuff. But if you think you’ll be touching ballots in my state, you’ve got another thing coming. First and foremost, precinct workers, clerks, and voters are the only people authorized to touch ballots. For example, I am the County Clerk, and I interact with exactly one voted ballot: My own.

Hi Congresswoman @LisaforCongress 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum, here! I saw this video of you at an event talking about the need to “ballot harvest” and I think there are some things you should know before you try that: 🧵 This has become a bit of an issue for those of a certain political persuasion who believe that the other side already does this. Two problems: 1) They don’t and 2) Ballot Harvesting is simply not legal.

Hi @repjoshschriver! 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here... the good folks of the twittersphere brought your comment to my attention and you seem to be missing some key details about how votes are certified. 🧵 Elections are certified by Boards of County Canvassers (two democrats and two republicans) in each of the 83 counties. They are then compiled and the State results are certified by the State Board of Canvassers (also 2 Ds and 2 Rs).

Hi @hillharper 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum, here! This article about you not disclosing any income, bank accounts, or other assets caught my eye and, since you are new to the scrutiny of politics, I thought you might need a little coaching on financial disclosure. 🧵 The voters of Michigan care a lot about financial disclosure. They placed Proposal 1 of 2022 on the ballot, and it passed 66%-33% statewide. That is a pretty big margin.

Hi ,Michigan Legislature!👋Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here. Wanted to bring an issue to your attention regarding the 2024 (and beyond) Election Calendar. 🧵 Our election calendar allows for the typical May Special, August Primary, November General, and Presidential Primary elections. However, constitutional changes have changed much about elections and we must adapt, for our voters and our elections administrators.

Hi Ottawa County Commission! 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here. I saw that you will be meeting today to proclaim yourselves a "Constitutional County." 🧵 This is your way of saying that you are going to let those who have violated state gun laws to remain at large.

Hi @ZoAndBehold👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum, here. I saw what the Montana Republican Legislators did to you yesterday and, as someone who was previously silenced on the floor of the House, I want you to know that I stand in solidarity with you. If you have not seen the news out of Montana, late yesterday, the Montana State House voted to censure Representative Zooey Zephyr, which barred her from access to the House Floor, Anteroom, and Gallery for the remainder of the Montana Session. thehill.com/homenews/state…

When Trump was running for President, the GOP stripped everything out of their party platform except getting him reelected. They have no official issue platform. 🧵 As a result, Republicans in the State Legislature have nothing to offer their constituents except protest votes on non-binding, ceremonial resolutions on a topic that to your average voter is as inoffensive as they come.

Hello, Twitter 👋 Barb Byrum, here. Yesterday, I posted some good news about youth turnout in Michigan, which sparked debate about our voting laws that I feel should be addressed. Especially since there were some civics and history classes missed by some of the commenters. 🧵 One commenter asked why paying property tax is not a requirement to be a voter. Several problems with this idea.

As a County Clerk for a county containing Michigan State University, this report has so much to love. For those that have limited time, let me highlight a few key points. circle.tufts.edu/2022-election-… 🧵 As recently as 2014, youth (18-24 year old) turnout in Michigan was 15.3%. In 2022, that number more than doubled to 36.5%. This is a vast change and is by far the largest jump of any state in the nation.

Hi @MIGOP👋Ingham County Clerk and Campaign Finance Professor Barb Byrum here. I noticed something strange about your most recent campaign finance filings that you might need to look into. Seems like you have some financial problems. 🧵 If you need to check my references, go ahead and contact @Mellissa_Carone She has been one of my pupils for a while… even if she doesn’t often heed my advice.
