I chose palliative care aka “comfort care” for Layla and Cora-babies diagnosed with anencephaly and limb body wall in utero. It is not neglect. Our plan was that, if born alive, they would be given pain meds and I would breastfeed them. They were stillborn so that didn’t happen.

People are shocked conservatives are going after IVF after it has existed since the late 70s/early 80s. I’m an IVF baby. 1983.

Here’s why: the abolitionists have pushed themselves from the fringe into the mainstream. Trump and his ilk made that move possible. As soon as it became evident that Roe would be overturned, I knew this was coming. Birth control is next. So is divorce. So is gay marriage. Bookmark this. I have so many tweets going back years predicting this. I’m not being alarmist.

I just read through the entire bill. I have many thoughts. For now, I’m walking in to my high risk OB NC clinic knowing my career will entirely change after this is passed.

The TL;DR version is:

•12 weeks abortion legal for any reason
•Abortion legal up to 20 wks for rape/incest
•Abortion legal up to 24 weeks for “life limiting diagnoses”
•Abortion legal at any stage for mother’s life.

We should know by now it’s not that simple.

Why do we vote Republican in every single election? They want an end to “no fault divorce” (abused women use this to get away from their partners). They want “head of household” voting, which effectively nullifies the 19th amendment. 1/ Republicans don’t just want an abortion ban before you know you’re pregnant, they want punishments-but only for you, not your partner. Go read this book by @Dolen Historical fiction is my jam and being an OB sonographer myself, this one is personal. My passion is reproductive justice and this is a fictional telling inspired by the Reif vs Weinberger case. 1/ In 1973, the same year as Roe v Wade it was discovered women of color, the disabled and poor were being sterilized either unknowingly or by being coerced. This focuses on Civil Townsend-the fictional Black nurse that sounds the alarm on two sterilizations of minor children. 2/

Several years ago, I didn’t believe a friend when she told me the SBC mishandled issues of sexual abuse. She was insistent I reevaluate my place. I thought I could stay and change the culture. Then I started to follow abuse survivors on Twitter. I started listening. I couldn’t believe it. So much abuse. So much coverup. So much blatant misogyny. I missed it because I wasn’t in those social media spaces. I had my small group and thought my church was doing the right thing. They were complicit and still are.

WOMEN: LEAVE THE SBC.

It is not meant for you. They don’t respect you. They don’t protect you. They don’t love you. They don’t cherish you. SBC members if you disagree, you better show up to the annual meeting and GET LOUD.
