Will do a more technical thread of what exactly is in the Platform Work Directive later this week, but already getting some messages indicating some confusion about what this deal really means for workers, so here’s some clarifications. 🧵

First, yes this is definitely going to happen now. I know there has been tonnes and tonnes of false dawns with this directive, but European Parliament ratification is a formality, so it’s done!

As Spain’s local elections approach this Sunday, I’ve been looking at the housing crisis in the Basque city of San Sebastian (Donostia).
The most expensive city in the Spanish state is a feeding frenzy for rentier capitalism. 🧵
House prices in San Sebastian are totally out-of-control: 22% pricier than the next most expensive city (Barcelona), 26% more than Madrid and 39% above Bilbao, just an hour’s drive away. The average price is €500k.

It was a bit dispiriting reading Audit Scotland's report on @scotgov private finance deals this morning. They're continuing with these PFI-lite models, despite how absurdly expensive it is.
I helped design an alternative in 2017 which could still be introduced now. THREAD @scotgov If you're interested in this stuff it's worth reading the report: audit-scotland.gov.uk/uploads/docs/r…
The big picture is since the Scottish Parliament began they've built £9bn worth of assets using private finance deals, and are paying out £40bn to the Carillion's of this world.

It's that time of year when Scotland's #richlist comes out revealing how inequality is rooted in power, not any nonsense about hard word, innovation, etc.
The one at the top of the pile, the Gordon-Grant family, is the perfect example of this.
THREAD commonspace.scot/articles/14225…
The Gordon-Grant family have been doing very, very well. No family’s wealth in the whole of the UK had grown faster since the #richlist began, a whopping 5,000% increase in 29 years.

This front-cover led to a lot of excitement (inc from me) that the SNP leadership had listened to members and dumped the Growth Commission's currency plans.
But the details of the motion mean delegates at the spring conf have A LOT of work to do.

Here it is: it contains a litany of problems for Scottish currency advocates. If this becomes the official position, unamended, you can forget about a currency being introduced in first term of parly, & indy campaigners are going to have a hell of a task selling it on doorsteps.
