Average Ernest Hemingway story: To prove his masculinity, Hemingway sailed into a hurricane only to return haunted by a tragic love affair and God's indifference to his despair.
Average F. Scott Fitzgerald story: After his wife called him gay, Fitzgerald slipped on a banana peel. Average Edgar Allan Poe story: Poe left Richmond, where he found only despair, to move to Baltimore, where he found only despair, and then to Philadelphia, despair yet again.
Average Walt Whitman story: Whitman's poem "He Lincoln my log" is considered homoerotic by some scholars

Not able to confirm this but Theodore Roosevelt and Bram Stoker were friends who met before Dracula was published and I've always wondered if Stoker thought "I bet that guy could hunt a vampire" and just added an American cowboy to Dracula. I've spent months researching Theodore Roosevelt for a serious work but I am willing to abandon it all to do "Roosevelt Hunts Dracula" Image

I've gone down this rabbit hole before but I'm going to expand on it and say where I think the Mad Men characters are in 1980, 10 years after the finale.

Lots of people seem unclear on what actually happens during a writer's strike not just with the WGA but with ongoing productions. Here's a quick thread on one of the films that was affected the most by the 2007-2008 WGA strike - Quantum of Solace. Background on the 2007-2008 WGA strike.
This went from November 5, 2007, to February 12, 2008 (100 days). Some of the key issues were DVD residuals and if writers for reality shows & animation should be in the guild.
Its biggest effect was setting WGA standards for all streamers. Image

I think a lot about how this was one of the first NYC romcoms filmed after 9/11 and while no one talks about it directly, everyone is still noticeably like "😬" the entire movie Image It is Maid in Manhattan canon that JLo breaks up with Ralph Fiennes after he votes in favor of the invasion of Iraq

For those keeping track, Twitter is currently in the stage of the Titanic sinking where the band is continuing to play and Billy Zane is running around the ship with a gun Someone once asked me if we'll ever get a "Titanic" style film about 9/11 and when I thought on it and gave my serious answer, they asked "Yeah but what I'm asking is will it have Billy Zane with a gun?"

"You tell me you're rich, you're powerful. I say show me. The most powerful man in the world is nothing when the only people in the room are laughing at him. What are you showing me besides your ass and asking me to put $8 inside it." Roger Sterling
"You know, in the war there was a fella who told us all the fighting would be over if he was in charge. The son of a bitch shot himself in the foot and went to the infirmary, got his nurse pregnant. Hell of a plan until the day you run out of feet to shoot."

Every word Fraser said is right.
The 1999 Mummy works so well because it knows exactly what kind of goofy-fun blockbuster it is whereas the 2017 Mummy tried to be a "serious" Marvel-style film.
I'm gonna have some fun and pitch a 4th Mummy film titled The Mummy: Gods and Monsters Image I think a 4th Mummy film could execute the Dark Universe's "Monster Mash" idea correctly. The issue with the Dark Universe was that it was entirely built around-- just some guy.
Tom Cruise played a poorly-written lead and while some of the stunts are fun, the characters never are Image

Something I've always wanted to talk about is why I love Jim Henson so much. It actually started with this episode of Sesame Street titled "Learning to Add and Subtract"
I've probably seen it over 700 times. I could quote it to you with my eyes closed.
Let me tell you why. Learning to Add and Subtract was a VHS Sesame Street compilation.
It was one of many Sesame Street and Muppet Show tapes my brother owned and by far his favorite choice…
In fact, it still is. My brother was born mentally challenged and still watches Sesame Street as an adult.

"Lemon, during my brief stint as CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery I canceled two movies: Batgirl and Scoob: Holiday Haunt."
"Wow, the scripts must have been terrible"
"No, the finished films were actually quite good."
"They were finished!?!"
"Lemon, have you ever heard of... taxes?" Image "This industry can change on you in a moment. In 2022, Warner Bros refused to release a finished film I made"
"Jenna, you were in Batgirl?"
"No, More Bee Ice"
"Morbius? They did release that, twice"
"If they did release it then why have I never seen anyone talk about it online?" Image

Something I've dreaded is that in our lifetime, we're going to get a "Titanic" film about 9/11. Someone once asked me "What do you think that'll look like?" So, I wrote an outline and... I think it's pretty accurate.
This is what I think Hollywood will do, cliches and all. Rose is a new employee at the North Tower of the WTC, Jack is a firefighter from the Bronx. I don't think there is any pitch for this concept where these are not the roles the characters play.
