Chicago’s population grew slightly over last decade, according to 2020 census. Total population is 2,746,388 residents -- a 1.9% increase. Sen. Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin now speaking on the Senate floor. He immediately invokes Abraham Lincoln's support for the completion of construction of the U.S. Capitol. "This is a special place, this is a sacred place. But this sacred place was desecrated by a mob today on our watch" Durbin: "This mob was invited to come to Washington on this day by this president for one reason: because he knew the Electoral College votes would be counted this day. He wanted this mob to interrupt" the Senate's constitutional duty.

A giant new skyscraper rivaling Trump Tower in height as Chicago's second-tallest building is planned to rise from the parking lot behind a redeveloped Tribune Tower, which would be gutted and converted into condos.
