🧵 20 some years in OPC & PCA. Some theses on the use of small groups based on my experience.

1. It tends to turn small group leader into a de facto office.

2. It seems to be part of Wesleyan/Methodist history but is at odds with Reformed piety and ecclesiology. 3. It tends to assume that discipleship, and the main part of the Christian life, happens primarily in intimate settings rather than through preaching the Word to the congregation.

4. By focusing on small groups, sermons and worship are less important, less refined. More cringe.
