In 2021 the SBC voted for an independent investigation to uncover sexual abuse and/or mistreatment of survivors. The investigation confirmed what many survivors had been saying for years. In 2022 the SBC publicly acknowledged the betrayal of survivors and our biblical values. 1/8 By overwhelming vote in Anaheim, the SBC initiated a process of implementing reforms at multiple levels with specific steps. The SBC directed the president to appoint a task force with the responsibility to implement substantial reforms and recommend more. No band aids. 2/

If anyone was looking for an excuse not to deal with sexual abuse and mistreatment of survivors within the SBC, Guidepost Solutions provided the perfect cover yesterday with their “pride” month tweet. I was both disappointed and stunned. A couple of thoughts about this… Guidepost is a multinational secular company that specializes in corporate investigations. They are not a Christian company although they routinely work for Christian organizations. The SATF chose them for their expertise and capacity to complete the investigation in time…

I have no appetite to be at odds with others in the faith. This situation with the disagreement over the investigation of the EC has been deeply saddening to me on multiple levels. One, I can see how the flesh can so easily capture my own heart. Two, I can see how devastating this whole argument is for those who have suffered sexual abuse. It’s beyond grievous that some people think this whole thing is political. Hear my heart, there is nothing political about examining ourselves to see if we have harmed someone.
