Here's an example: Give Mitch McConnell truth serum. Let him talk. You will hear the worst things about human beings.
The real issue is his twisted worldview--his pathology really-- is normalized in our culture. To think like him is to be a manly, strong, patriotic... bootstrap American. To disagree with him is to be lame, wimpy, indulgent, and anti-American.

I will vote for anyone who would push for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting to get 1% of defense budget money. That would be $7.5 billion dollars, and I would never have to hear a 12-year-old Ira Glass beg again. I think it's a syndrome of the way we do things. One time my father said it was a St. Louis thing, a Washington U thing. He said, "They want top production for no money."
That's what we appear to expect from public broadcasting--24-hour excellence for pennies.

I am stupid privileged. Stupid!
The only excuse I can give you is I was adopted at three weeks old, by some awesome white American humans. I am so damn lucky. I know it. I act on it. Have been for 40 years. My adoptive father was a brilliant, educated white man who came up in de jure Jim Crow St. Louis. His only competition for jobs came from white men; and he was good!
His career coincided with decades of the best economy we ever saw. Year after year it got better as he aged...

KMOX Radio, 1120 AM, calls itself "The Voice of St. Louis". CBS owned it for decades.
The Cardinals were the westernmost baseball team for several years, and KMOX's signal could be heard at night in the contiguous 48. Not in actuality, but Cardinals fans were made... throughout the Midwest, especially when Stan Musial was doing it, and Harry Caray and Jack Buck were talking about it. Imagine say, 1950.

You may have noticed I have a big mouth. It has gotten me in trouble. I'm going to take a risk and run what I will call a hypothetical with you... I work at a tutoring service. You must be a certified teacher to get the job. You can't get it if you are not a teacher. Sounds exclusive, right?
It pays $13 per hour.
