State lawmakers are currently debating a bill that would legalize medical aid in dying in Massachusetts.

Behind the intellectual arguments for and against the issue are real people who’ve faced the decline of a loved one. There’s a shortage of chicken. Starbucks reported a shortage of cups and peach-flavored juice. Ketchup packets are hard to find.

The story seemed too wild to be true: Cape Cod lobster diver Michael Packard was able to escape the mouth of a humpback whale with only bruises and a good story to tell.
