I am at The Rock Church in San Bernardino, where preparations are being made for the 11 a.m. memorial service for U.S. Forest Service Big Bear Hotshots crew boss Charles Morton. Only invited guests are being allowed inside the church, but there is seating outside - chairs about 6 feet apart - and a viewing screen outside.

I am at the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office awaiting the arrival of the procession with the firefighter who died at the El Dorado fire. A bagpipe player is practicing. There are a lot of areas along Lena Road to view the procession, which has begun in the mountains.

The Riverside Fire Department hazardous materials team is at the Hampton Inn on Riverwalk Parkway. I’m trying to find out what’s happening. Battalion Chief Tony Perna told me an employee checking a room found a black and white powdery substance in a baggie under a dresser. He opened it up and became dizzy. He went downstairs and collapsed. He was hospitalized.

I am at the Yucaipa Community Center, which is serving as an evacuation center for the El Dorado fire near Yucaipa. Watch the Press-Enterprise website at Pe.com as well as public safety social media accounts for updates.

I am on Carlson Avenue in Redlands, where overnight two people were shot to death and one was critically wounded. Crime scene technicians are here. I’m looking for witnesses. I spoke to a neighbor who described the deceased woman as kind and private, someone who walked to the store and always wore a mask.

There is a larger plume of smoke Wednesday at the Apple fire that was attributed to flames reaching an area with denser vegetation. Its East flank is still burning into the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Here is the latest fire map.

I am at the Apple fire command post. I’ll be getting some questions answered about the fire, plus, What is it like fighting a fire and running a base camp during a pandemic? The fire is active in the Forest Falls and Millard Canyon areas. There are wisps of smoke and not giant plumes Tuesday because the fire is burning in less-dense vegetation.

Im at the top of Avenida Miravilla, watching the firefighting aircraft at the Apple fire in Cherry Valley. Eddie Cassadas, 36, of Beaumont, along with family members has been distributing water to police officers and firefighters. “We just want to be helpful to the community. ... We want to spread positivity during this negative time.”

I am at a shopping center at Ironwood and Heacock in Moreno Valley, where deputies are investigating the attempted robbery of a security guard at an ATM. The ATM in question seems to be a standalone Bank of America ATM with an armored vehicle next to it.

Riverside County sheriff’s deputies are out in force in anticipation of the Black Lives Matter protest at 3 p.m. at Neil Snipes Park in Norco. There are lots of sheriff’s deputies but no protesters.

I am at Upland City Hall, where aclised session is scheduled, presumably about Police Chief Darren Goodman, who is in paid leave. There’s a large crowd, with a succession of speakers praising Goodman to the City Council. “We support our chief because he brings us together,” one speaker said. Another speaker said the council was playing politics with Goodman

I am at a news conference in Riverside where the arrest of a serial rapist will be announced. The suspect is Darin Edward Cooke, 50.

Protesters chanting “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Chad Bianco has got to go” march past Robert Presley Detention Center in downtown Riverside and are headed toward the sheriff’s station on Orange Street. Riverside police and county sheriff’s deputies are keeping watch outside their stations.

I have seen many stories of media reporting on protests being mistreated by law enforcement in areas outside the Inland Empire. My experience with @RSO, @RiversidePolice, @sbcountysheriff and @CHPInland has been nothing but positive. I get access and they worry about my safety. A sheriff's deputy did ask me to get down from this perch (and helped me down). They said they were concerned that objects thrown at them would hit me.

About 75 people have gathered so far at 4th and Milliken next to Ontario Mills mall at a demonstration to protest the death of George Floyd and promote community unity. These protests seem to be becoming more and more diverse. Very few here are black.

I am reporting from the big warehouse fire in Redlands. The fire was reported at 5:30 a.m. at Kuehne-Nagel, a freight distributor headquartered in Switzerland. It contracts with Amazon, and some tractor-trailers have burned (unknown right now who wish them).

Main Street in Riverside is closed at 13th Street in Riverside in advance of the 4 p.m. vigil. RTA suspended bus service in the area at 3 p.m.

I’m at Frederick Street and Dracaea Avenue in Moreno Valley, where the road is closed after a George Floyd protest at Moreno Valley Community Park. I’m trying to interview what appear to be the few remaining protesters here. No takers from anyone who will allow his/her name to be published. One young man says it was peaceful and that Rep. Mark Takano marches with them. I’m trying to verify that.

I am in Yucaipa to cover a rally by people protesting what they say is police brutality against blacks, including the slaying of George Floyd in Minneapolis while in police custody. The protesters marched from a shopping center on Yucaipa Boulevard to the sheriff’s station, where they knelt and observed a nine-minute moment of silence for Floyd to match the length of time an officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck.

Quite a number of businesses are boarded up in advance of the 4 p.m. George Floyd protest in front of the library at 3581 Mission Inn Ave. in Riverside. Many streets are blocked off, as are public parking garages.
