a lot of people agonize about not having enough money saved for retirement bc they may need expensive longterm care at end of life.

but personally after having 3 family members in LTC, and my father on the way of needing it soon, I can say it’s not necessarily a great use of $$ culturally we are so uncomfortable with death we are simply not rational about it.

we are obsessed with length of life, not quality of life - and imo that’s a complete waste of financial resources and such a sad thing to spend your working life accumulating money for.

I know most people know this but for those that don’t:

The reason high incomes are taxed so high, and justifiably so, is because once you have money, it gets easier and easier to make more of it. Money gets pretty slushy after $200K. It takes very little effort to increase your income by $20K or $50K or even $100K - whether you’re employed and negotiating or switching employers, or whether you own your own business and can tweak a revenue stream to perform better.

one of the reason Pierre Poilievre’s messaging is resonating with so many Canadians is bc the middle class - experiencing stagnant wages, increasing costs of living, high debt - definitely *know* they’re being ripped off, but they’re not really sure how or where it’s coming from. Pierre is offering a bogeyman: big government. It’s a one-stop-shop solution. Maybe if we lower taxes & interest rates, all your financial problems will go away.

They won’t, because Canadian financial woes are not being caused by CPP/EI premiums or even rising interest rates.

hello i have repeatedly built audiences of 10K+ on virtually every social media platform (blogging, twitter, instagram, youtube, email) and generate a multi-six-figures income from my online content.

here's how to build an audience anywhere

(a 🧵 for @daniel_foch and anyone) @daniel_foch 1. you are your product.

there is a 100% chance whatever you are creating, promoting or saying is not unique or special, but there is only one *you*.

The way *you* communicate/share is something no one else can do, so you better be different than everyone else.

I don’t know if any GenZ kids follow me but if anyone under age 30 is looking for unsolicited financial advice today, here is a thread of the best ways I used my money in my 20s:

🧵 1. I focused obsessively and relentlessly on my income. For most of 20s I held 2-3 jobs at a time, even during school.

Your 20s are a great time for side hustle because you have time and energy - both of which will start to decrease in your 30s 😅

if you're wondering how tf redditors bankrupted a few hedgefunds in under 24 hours, yours truly has the tea ☕️

to understand what's going on with $GME requires understanding short selling, rich people, and internet trolls, which is my favorite combo of things. to "short" a stock means to bet on its price decreasing 📉

you borrow shares from someone that owns them via your brokerage and sell them on the market.

you then wait for the price to decrease, at which point you buy the shares back and return them to the lender.

the harassment & judgment women face for choosing to be childfree vs the harassment & judgment mothers face are two sides of the same coin.

reproductive choices are the primary method to shame and control women - the irony being it doesn't matter which choice you actually make. I know many childfree feminists can feel ignored or even alienated when I direct my energy to advocate for mothers, and I'm sorry for that.

I see you, I hear you, I respect you.

know we are fighting the same battle against the same enemy and we can't win if we fight each other.

deadly incompetent journalism coupled with a deluge of misogyny come together in an extraordinarily stupid take from NBC today unplanned pregnancies don't just happen from one-night stands, and are not prevented by simply closing restaurants.

couples in long-term relationships who are married or cohabitate can have unplanned pregnancies.

unplanned pregnancy is when you GET PREGNANT AND IT IS UNPLANNED Image

We should lower income taxes for women.

They should either enjoy a completely tax-free period of their working lifetime (ie. childbearing years) or income earned should be completely tax-free up to a certain threshold ($200,000).

Men’s income taxes should increase. Before the MRAs fill my @‘s with their complaints I want to lay out why this is fair.

So long as we refuse to 1) pay women equal to men 2) provide universal childcare 3) distribute unpaid labor equally, then we have to make an adjustment elsewhere. No income taxes is a solution.

I told my mom I was drawing again and showed her my new work. She was SO happy.

She told me apparently around 16 or 17 I was sick of being “known only for my art” and refused to draw anymore so I could be recognized or thought of for other things 🤣🤣 I do remember feeling constantly bombarded with comments/compliments. It was a persistent conversation - why don’t you go to art school, will you pursue this seriously.

I’m grappling now w the irony that the recognition of my skills/talent made me not want to use it for 20 yrs.
