As we prepare to enter 2024, the fundamental problem in Westminster is that the political class is stuck in 2016.
Never having recovered from that year’s repudiation of the post-1997 liberal consensus, they now have real power but are devoid of vision. /1
Membership of the EU reduced Westminster to little more than a rubber stamp for big decisions taken in Brussels.
Much of Parliament’s work consisted of waving through the legislation required to enshrine such decisions in domestic law.
It was an easy, well-paid gig. /2

Ironically, trying to blame Brexit for global economic headwinds requires a staggering level of ignorance about European current affairs.
The “enlightened” FBPE chattering classes can’t see beyond North London.

1. Deal with the Northern Ireland Protocol.
2. Arrest the continuing issue of illegal migration across the Channel.
3. Reverse the unnecessary tax increases imposed last year. 1/44. Define a short, medium and long-term energy strategy which joins up geopolitical risk, the rising cost of living and moderates the net zero and green agenda to deliver credible, sustainable and affordable energy to these islands. 2/4
