You're probably going to be hearing a lot more about the town of Springfield, Ohio. 10,000 or more Haitian migrants have settled there since 2014 and the town has had issues accommodating them. It's a story ripe for Donald Trump and the RNC.

springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfie… While I'm sure mainstream reporters will be descending on the region, the local papers have done a terrific job exploring the issue from multiple angles.

.@CalMatters Homelessness Reporter @MarisaKendall is back, this time with a multi-part report on how Texas reduced homelessness by 28% while California's homeless population increased 43%, and at 10% of the cost of California. Can CA learn from Texas?

calmatters.org/housing/2023/0… Not without adopting some proven policy solutions. For one, Texas permits more than twice as many new homes as California, even though California has about 9 million more residents" because "Land and construction costs are cheaper in Texas."

I take a back seat to no one when it comes to caring for the homeless, but I'm focused on results. Ours should be a state where no one lives fetid waste and the homeless are treated for their underlying issues BUT providing housing without conditions doesn't work for everyone. We know what works, providing more shelter beds and requiring people to use them. You can't treat mental illness and substance abuse on the street. A shelter is the perfect place for intervention, triage, to get people into treatment and housing, as necessary.

If I were to grant Trump anything, it's this: Director Comey took it upon himself to let Hillary Clinton off the hook. Attorney General Garland didn't. What could have been a banal documents dispute was turned into a criminal investigation. Selective prosecution? Perhaps. Director Comey pronounced, "we did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate the law" but there was clear evidence that they tried to hide their conduct. Might a more thorough investigation have revealed nefarious intent?

The White House celebrated Pride Month yesterday, so it's a good time to take a look at the often forgotten or maliciously maligned history of another president on gay rights. Yep, Ronald Reagan 🧵

medium.com/the-radical-ce… Patti Davis recounts that when her parents were out of town, she and her siblings were often left in the care of a lesbian couple who were family friends. “He was a very tolerant person. He did not have prejudices against gay people," she says.

If, as a conservative, you aim to protect children from "progressive" ideology and influences, that's fine. By all means, boycott stores that don’t share your values and buy local, but recognize we live in a country that guarantees, and celebrates, free speech and expression. 🧵 I'm aware, perhaps more than most, of President Ronald Reagan's praise of the conservative movement's "triumph” of stopping the left from “putting the average American on the moral defensive" in a 1985 address to CPAC.

Here's something. The more representative the show - the more it featured "under-represented racial/ethnic identity groups" the higher likelihood that an audience will watch additional episodes.

nielsen.com/insights/2023/… BUT among women 18-34, a different type of programming is also resonating – classic TV. On top is Grey's Anatomy followed by Gilmore Girls. The Simpsons, Friends, and Seinfeld are also among the top 25. Not exactly icons of modern 'woke' TV.

How can conservatives get more involved in business to influence corporate culture? 🧵

When he first ran for president in 1975, Ronald Reagan identified the three biggest sources of America’s problems at the time: Big Government, Big Business, and Big Labor. Since then, conservatives have largely focused on the first, and arguably biggest, threat to our livelihoods: Big Government. If only we could limit government, a lot of our problems could be solved, the thinking goes, or at least we would be free from distant, despotic control.

Here's one for you. The government, the media, and the medical establishment didn't panic and abandon all their principles at the start of the COVID pandemic and everything they did was "by the book" and totally necessary.

Oh, sorry, #AprilFools 🧵 On February 28, 2020, Dr. Anthony Fauci of NIAID, Dr. Clifford Lane of NIH & Dr. Robert Redfield of the CDC published "COVID-19- Navigating the Uncharted" saying the consequences of Covid-19 "may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe influenza."

THREAD on #CARecall: I oppose recalls and impeachment on principle, that only the most egregious violations of public trust warrant removal outside of regularly scheduled elections. If @GavinNewsom were running on competently managing crises... 1/25 ...and addressing the failures of state bureaucracy, I would oppose this one too. 2/25

Also @latimes @melmason, @ScottWalker didn't beat the recall by 7 points by driving up Republican turnout.

"independents gave an edge to Walker, giving him 54 percent of their votes compared to 45 percent for Barrett." cbsnews.com/news/how-scott… "That is similar to 2010, when Walker received the votes of 56 percent of independents, and Barrett 42 percent."
