.@HMRCgovuk published the annual estimates of the Tax Gap today. We've been analysing them. Here's a thread with some of our observations.

The tax gap is the difference between the amount of tax that should, in theory, be paid to HMRC (aka the total theoretical liability), and what is actually collected. The difference is for a mix of reasons, including criminal activity such as evasion & taxpayer error. 2/x
