The Rironi-Mau summit has sparked a very serious debate here and allow me weigh in with my little knowledge.

Those happy about the ksh 8 per km toll fee, think again. The financing consideration here as per the basis of value for money assesment is not perfomance based.

That means in shortfall of revenues,the govt. cannot chip in and the private party is at liberty to increase the tolls untill the deficit is met. So this is on the lower side. The upcoming Nairobi - Mombasa expresssway is at ksh 12 per km. The current Nairobi expressway began at ksh 18 per km. I think its now above ksh 20.

This project has been highly demanded over the years but never took off even after getting close to realize it.
It was conceptualized in 2016 and was to be the first toll project in the country.
