I've made New Year's Resolutions for all of YOU.

1. Stop being the absolute worst. Your New Year's Resolutions
2. You can't pull off that one thing you keep trying and you damn well know it so just stop. It's awkward for all of us, friend.

Epidemiologist who headed Imperial College report team has drastically revised predictions, from potentially over 250k UK deaths to now fewer than 20k. Report was key in UK strategy.
newscientist.com/article/223857… In part Ferguson credits measures taken to date such as "restrictions to people's movements," but that's not the sole takeaway. I hesitate to join the clamor of armchair expertise, but do think there are some important things to note here, as a person who reads/writes about news.

There is NO question in my mind that @BrianStelter had no intention of lionizing or butching-up al-Baghdadi's rep by arguing Trump made up the claims of "crying and whimpering" by that terrorist dick. He was trying to make a point about Trump. buff.ly/2oGIFm4

HOWEVER... @brianstelter It is beyond my reckoning how media folks don't know the secondary implications of some things they say, or of the grounds on which they choose to make a point. How they can't foresee the obvious and predictable fallout that will come from those choices.

This is a nice thread from a human kindness perspective, but it highlights a big flaw in the green activist argument. The biggest proponents, when taking any non-green action, always have a "good reason" for doing it "this time." For example, a big time activist flying to UN Climate Conference will stress the importance of his or her work to the cause, that it was a necessary evil in the broader war. Or in the Prince's case, a private jet is okay because of need and an offset. As if neutral = reduction.

As usual is maddening how easy this is to understand and how much everyone refuses to understand it. There are two things happening here, and they aren't super hard to understand. There's the asshole administration and the asshole reporter. The court said asshole administration revoked asshole Jim Acosta's press pass without due process. WH deemed him press, gave him a press pass, then they kicked him out without even being able to say who made the decision or on what grounds.

Jim Sciutto on CNN is not correct. "Mattis made very clear this is a one time shot, a limited one night strike purely on chemical weapons facilities. That is not what the President said moments before .. the President described a sustained US response..." This was not a conflict. First of all, Mattis spoke militarily isolating this strike for the purposes of the briefing. He obviously didn't say "and never again shall another missile be launched." But more importantly he repeatedly emphasized the words "this wave" of strikes very precisely.
