I wish I would have gotten a chance to do it before it went belly-up.

An astounding failure in role playing, attraction design, theming, dining, public relations - just across the board. The vision Disney Imagineers had for their Star Wars efforts was an incredible foray into theme park LARPing/immersive storytelling/improv theater/video game design, and the practical reality of theme parks (both infrastructure and audience) made it all but impossible.

They really don't do wireless harddrives so much anymore, huh I mean I get it; at this point ~4TB isn't that hard to slap onto a small-ish USB3 device that can plug straight in to your machine, and if you really need more than that you start looking at a NAS

Overwatch 2 out here under-promising and still under delivering Like, I hate to be too blithe - it's clear something happened mid-development that caused planned features and functionality to be totally scrapped. And that sucks - years of effort wasted, and cool ideas that won't see fruition.

It is unbelievable that Florida's descent into petty, corrupt, and if we're being honest, fascist autocracy has been taken 100% in stride by the media, like it's just another wacky Florida Man Does Bath Salts And Eats Friend's Face story. They have emptied schools of books, falsified COVID numbers, passed incredibly restrictive anti-LGBTQ legislation with the promise of more, and have retaliated against one of the largest media conglomerates in the world for a milquetoast statement of opposition.

I haven't watched the season premiere yet, but it really feels like The Mandalorian Season 3 is primed for failure. First up: It's launching concurrently with the airing of The Last of Us: another show about a gruff Pedro Pascal protecting a child through a tumultuous universe. Except in TLOU, he's not wearing a mask the whole time.

I'm still stuck on the "the ultimate embodiment of role playing is to let player be evil" thing. It's just such a ridiculous statement; it's the sort of conclusion I reached when I was 16 and thought putting grenades in people's pocket in Fallout was the height of roleplaying. It's the conflation of role playing with player agency: the more things I can do and the more expressive I can be in a system, surely the more role-playing I am doing! But that's not really the case.

Sometimes I wonder what Mick Gordon's version of, like, the Battlefield 1942 theme would be like Mick Gordon's Tetris Type A with choral accompaniment

I continue to believe two cool things:

* People should be compensated for their work, including and perhaps especially work in the arts!

* Contributing the death of ownership where you rent every piece of media you engage with is bad, actually! The first sale doctrine is good! The fact that this keeps getting boiled down to "Death to the Internet Archive! They must answer for their sins against the holy copyright scripture!" vs "Nah, man, information just, like, wants to be free. It should all be, like, free!" is utterly exhausting.

You ever check in on mobile gaming just to see how ridiculous the grift has gotten on some of them? I don’t mean well intentioned titles, I mean the spammy evil stuff.

I picked up a game today that asks you to pick the longest word in a category and oh man the dark patterns here First there’s the standard stuff: you can pick from a variety of skins, but only if you watch 3 ads for each.

I'm not the first to look say this, but I feel like saying "the past few decades have all just blurred together, but previous decades were culturally discrete" says more about a lack of attention paid by the observer than anything about culture itself. The film industry alone has seen drastic change in the past decade due to the rise of streaming services, the death of middle-budget films, certain monopolistic studios/distributors, the challenges facing theaters in the pandemic, the rise of de-aging, "cinematic universes"...

I think Rick Sanchez and the xenomorph from Alien learned something today, and have been given a lot to reflect on. It's frustrating, because I *don't* want to be snarky and dismissive. The intent here is good, and the little ludic metaphors about collaboration and teamwork and togetherness are perhaps corny and condescending and shallow but they manage to make it more than a digital museum.

Re: the OnlyFans turnabout: I'm side-eyeing the term 'suspend.' I can't help but feel like this is going to play out like Humble staying the execution of the charity slider, or that time Patreon got pushback on its intent to change how users were charged. I.e., this policy was enacted with considered intent knowing there'd be fallout, and while they've decided the PR blowback has been too intense to weather by just trudging through it whatever business interests that prompted them to make this change haven't really gone away AFAIK
