SERCO IN ALBERTA
(a thread with receipts)

Alberta just hired this company to manage disability benefits for hundreds of thousands of Albertans.

You deserve to know who they are.

Because their track record is...

Shameful.

๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡ Serco Canada has a $51 million contract to manage ADAP employment services for Calgary and Southern Alberta.

They will determine your employability.

They will manage your file.

They will report non-compliance to the provincial ministry.

Their decision can end your benefits.

So who is Serco?

Should they have been hired?

Good morning Alberta.

Yesterday, we went over the cybersecurity crisis our government has been ignoring for years.

Today?

The machine that keeps it all running.

It's a long one, but fret not; for it shall be rolled for you at end.

Still with me?

AISH โ†’ ADAP SURVIVAL GUIDE
(save this, share this, print this)

AISH recipients in Alberta, whose benefits are transitioning to ADAP.

This post is for YOU.

Not politics.

Just what you need to know, what you need to do, and exactly what to bring to your doctor.

"WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW"

Under ADAP, you may be legally required to look for work, accept job placements, and participate in employment programs, or lose your monthly income.
If your disability prevents you from working, you have rights.

Here's how to protect them.

"THE TWO STREAMS"

ADAP:
Your disability "substantially impedes" work, but you can still do modified, part-time, or accommodated work.
Monthly max: $1,740.

AISH:
Your disability "permanently prevents" any employment.
Monthly max: $1,940.

Difference between these two streams comes down entirely to your doctor's documentation.

"TO STAY ON AISH, YOUR DOCTOR MUST PROVE THREE THINGS:"

โ‘  Your impairment is severe and permanent, expected to last indefinitely, supported by specialist reports and diagnostics.

โ‘ก It is the primary barrier to employment, not lack of education, transportation, language, or job market.

Your doctor must be able to say: even if a perfect job opened up next door, your body or mind could not sustain it.

โ‘ข No treatments or therapies can improve your ability to work, or that attempting them would actively harm your health.

ALL THREE.

Simultaneously.

This is the LEGAL standard.

"YOUR FREE REASSESSMENT RIGHT"

You have the right to one free medical reassessment covered by the Government of Alberta.

Use it.

Book a double appointment.

Tell billing it's covered under ADAP transition rules, the government pays for it.

This coverage is not time-limited.

"TIPS FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT"

โ‘  Book a double slot, completing this paperwork takes time.

Ask specifically for a longer booking when you call.

โ‘ก Remind billing: Government of Alberta covers the FULL COST of one comprehensive reassessment under ADAP transition rules.

You should not be charged.

โ‘ข Ask for attachments.
If your doctor supports your AISH case, ask them to attach recent lab results, imaging reports, or specialist letters.

These strengthen your file significantly.

โ‘ฃ Your doctor may not know the system changed.

The cover letter in the next post explains it for them.

Print it and bring it.

"WHAT THE PANEL WILL LOOK FOR"

The panel reviewing your file will specifically ask:

1) Have they tried every medication?
2) Have they gone to pain management clinics?
3) Have they tried modified workplace training?

Your doctor must document that further treatments will not improve your ability to work; or that attempting them would actively cause your health to decline.

This is where most files fail.

Don't let yours.

"THE LEGAL DEFINITIONS THAT DECIDE EVERYTHING"

ADAP Medical Criterion:

Your severe disability "substantially impedes" employment.

You have functional limitations, but still possess the capacity to perform modified, part-time, or accommodated work.

AISH Medical Criterion:

Your severe disability "permanently prevents" employment.

Your doctor must prove you have zero current or future capacity to earn a living.

ONE WORD separates them.

Make sure your doctor uses the right one.

"IF YOUR BENEFITS GET PAUSED"

You have 30 days to appeal to the AISH/ADAP Appeal Panel - but ONLY for:

- Income calculation disputes
- Overpayment disputes
- Administrative benefit distribution issues

You CAN'T appeal the employability determination itself through this panel.

*IMPORTANT:*

If financial benefits are suspended:

Your Health Benefits - prescription drugs and dental coverage; are protected under a separate statutory framework and should continue even if income support is paused.

Push back firmly if anyone tells you otherwise.

*Full template package:*

Cover letter for your doctor AND the complete Functional Capacity Assessment form - is next.

Copy it, print it, bring it.

Be well. Be loud. Be love.
๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’– PART 2 of 3: Print this and hand it to your doctor at the start of your appointment ๐Ÿ‘‡

Date: _______________

To: Dr. _______________

Subject: Request for Functional Capacity Documentation (ADAP to AISH Review)

Dear Dr. _______________,

I am writing to request your urgent assistance with a critical review of my disability benefits.

The Government of Alberta has automatically transitioned the majority of AISH recipients to the new Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP). ADAP is a mandatory employment-focused program.

I am now legally required to participate in job search activities and workforce placements to maintain my monthly income.

My medical condition and severe functional limitations completely prevent me from sustaining any form of employment.

If I cannot comply with these employment mandates, my financial benefits will be suspended.

The only way to return to full AISH is to submit comprehensive clinical proof to the provincial AISH Medical Review Panel.

This medical assessment is my only opportunity to secure my benefits.

How you can help me today -

Focus on Functional Capacity.

The panel needs clear evidence of what my body and mind can and cannot do over a standard 8-hour workday.

Diagnosis alone is not sufficient.

Complete the Attached Template.

I have provided a Functional Capacity Assessment template that translates my symptoms into the specific legal criteria the panel requires.

Use the AISH Track Attestation.

If you agree that my condition permanently prevents me from working, please check the box stating that my impairment completely prevents employment now and in the foreseeable future.

Attach Clinical Evidence.

Please attach any recent specialist reports, diagnostic imaging, or laboratory results that support this assessment.

Billing Note: The Government of Alberta covers the full cost of one comprehensive medical reassessment under ADAP transition rules.
Please process billing through the provincial program.

Thank you for your care and support.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

[Your AISH/ADAP Client Number]

trumpf Medicaid rules require cancer patients to prove their cancer prevents them from working.

While IN chemo.

Alberta's ADAP transition requires disability recipients to prove their disability permanently prevents employment.

This is not coincidence.

This is a template.

May 2026.

Alberta sent AISH recipients a letter about the transition to ADAP.

That same month?

A separate FAQ document was distributed to stakeholders:
- hospital social workers,
- service providers,
- department directors.

NOT the same document.

This is what's different. Client letter tells recipients the transition is automatic.

No action required!

What it does NOT clearly state:
- AISH max monthly benefit: $1,940
- ADAP max monthly benefit: $1,740

$200/month less.

Gap is covered by a transition benefit.

For some.

Until December 31, 2027.

Alberta is FORCING medical professionals to work at FOR-PROFIT clinics AGAINGST their will.

Every Alberta specialist MUST sign Medical Staff Bylaws with AHS.

Those bylaws REQUIRE obeying your Department Head's scheduling.

Refuse a shift?

Lose your privileges.

Lose your career.

That's the hook.

EVERYTHING else hangs from it.
