The moral panic about teachers supposedly teaching Critical Race Theory in schools is just a preemptive attack to make sure we don’t start trying to unweave the white supremacy and colonialism sewn into K-12 education. This is particularly true of the vitriol being fomented among white women who are unwilling to accept that anything they learned as children or have taught to their own children could be remotely considered racist.

HELLO.

My parents told the tree trimmer to prune my pear tree and now it has no fruit or leaves.

I wanna scream. They're giving the same treatment to the apple tree now.

I really liked taking the kid for walks in the stroller, but last autumn he just started refusing to get in it.

Fine, you're big and want to roam. That's fine. Then today, 10 months later, when it's hot and soupy, he demands that I take him for a walk in the (dusty and spider infested) stroller.

Driving through local small towns and seeing Trump, Fuck Biden, Impeach Biden, Stop The Steal, and Don't Give Up The Ship flags draped on porches and placards stuck in trimmed yards, I realized how Trump cemented himself so firmly in the GOP and why he's not going anywhere. For my entire memory, evangelical voters have been a fixture of the Republican party. Their dedication is based on faith rather than reality.

Spontaneous toddler party update:

We had veggie nuggets, broccoli and mac and cheese, eaten outside. While I was cooking, they blew bubbles.

I was walking across the lawn at 3:30 when my mom flagged me down, told me she was invited to a party 2 days ago that starts at 4:30 and asked if I can watch my dad. I know she's stressed and needs a break so I said yes, but I was also overcome with sadness that that's not an opportunity that's been provided to me in the 3 years since the kid has been born.

One of the things I hope we've learned from Obama years versus the Trump years is that morality and hypocrisy are not factors that affect the opinion or worldview of conservatives. YES, it feels good to say these things, to be validated in our suspicion that the other party's claim of being the moral majority cares not for morality and is not a majority.

I have this family story about fascism and farmers that I've been sitting on for a while, trying to figure out the best way to tell it.

Tonight, I just decided to say "fuck it" and let it out on its own. My Seidel family has been in Berks County, PA since the 1750s, but we're new comers to the western side, having moved here in 1962.

If you are like me, you were spun out into this world having been imparted with very little wisdom regarding how to deal with deeply shitty people. You're taught to be nice! To look for the good! Keep your head down! FORGIVE AND REALLY FORGET, which basically means not to talk shit about bad people.

Thread about farm labor that's been buzzing around my noggin for a few months. "The hired hand," is a term you hear a lot on smaller farms, that plus one that adds to the labor above and beyond what the family unit can perform.

I thought about this a little bit more while milking this morning. There's nothing wrong with knowing how to milk a cow by hand, make charcoal, dig a root cellar, or shatter drill a well.

I've been wanting to return to this article for a few days.

Let's talk about cows. Cows experience rich emotional and cognitive lives.

Truth.

Full stop.
