Let's talk about costume design and how choices around small details can help to tell the story of a character. For no reason at all, let's look at this completely random dwarf as an example of how we learn about a character through visual choices. 1/ Image In considering costume design, whether it's making a physical outfit to be worn or a design rendered in art, there are a number of factors to consider, like class, status, culture, gender, and even time of year. All of these contribute to our baseline understanding of a story. 2/

Pop Quiz: If you are telling me something important and I am staring off into space while you talk, am I:
A: Paying Attention
B: Not Listening

let's talk about what "paying attention", gifting christmas presents, and how to be a good DM. A thread. In our society, we are taught that "paying attention" looks something like this: eye contact, stillness, not fidgeting, facing the speaker, but the reality is that for a lot of people, this is what [spending all your energy on looking like you're] paying attention looks like

ADDENDUM b/c this went low-key viral and I'm seeing so much "oh i could never dress how I want b/c I'm fat". THIS IS FOR FAT BODIES, TOO. Fat bodies have existed across all of history and, as a plus-size person with a lot of research under my belt, NONSENSE I SAY🧵 let's talk: The details of historical menswear don't change much based on size. Sometimes the buttons/closures are in a slightly different position to allow for better functionality, but otherwise, an old timey suit is an old timey suit. 🧵

Let's talk🧵 The Four Pillars of Cheap and Thrifted Costume Trickery are:

1. Shape
2. Drape
3. Texture
4. Weight

If you carefully choose pieces with these four tenants, you can get pretty damn close to what you want to achieve. BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN, CATE? I'm glad you asked. 🧵

This accidentally turned into a hyperfixation thread but I hope it's helpful:

One of the things that makes me the most concerned for player well-being in TTRPGs is the lack of training on the cause/ prevention of bleed. I come from theatre, so this was always part of my world. When I was coming up, most theatre training programs were DEEPLY unhealthy, and bleed was a major problem, like an Actual Trauma type problem, like "the show must go on no matter what, break yourself, give every part of yourself because that's what REAL actors do 2/

I've seen calls for a general strike...on 6 different days + dozens of unvetted offers for rides/rooms for abortions.

Stop.
Your rage is warranted:
Listen to the people who have been doing this for years
Don't destabilize what you didn't build in your zeal to participate *now* It's admirable to want to jump in, feet first. But there are ppl - in your community or nearby at the state or local level - who have been building networks of vetted, trustworthy people to enact real, lasting change. Listen to them. It it crucial for the longevity of the fight.
