@alexisalexisaaa @calliomally I heard it as “it takes 7 “contacts” (not “no’s”) before someone is ready to receive the gospel,” with the idea being we never know what good we can do/focus on member work, but can see how it would get very quickly and easily confused, esp by eager young missionaries. @alexisalexisaaa @calliomally Like, I heard it as, “it takes 7 contacts, and you never know which one you are, so offer the gospel to everyone (but if they say no it’s okay because someone else could be the 7th one.)” Not, “knock on someone’s door 8 times until they say yes.”

If you’re married irl, are you married in your dreams? If you’re in a significant/serious/long-term relationship irl (that may or may not include marriage,) are you in your dreams?

We found out last night Conor’s university is explicitly prohibiting teachers from telling their students if another student they were in class with tests positive for COVID. Which seems like.... something people should know? I 100% believe we need to protect students’ medical privacy; teachers should take great care not to reveal the identity of the person who tested positive. But to not be allowed to tell students they’ve been exposed to a positive case seems.... very dangerous???

Just received our copy of HOLY TROUBLEMAKERS & UNCONVENTIONAL SAINTS and I am BEYOND delighted; look at how amazing this looks 😍😍😍 ImageImage It highlights the stories of women, queer & trans people, indigenous people, Black people, & others who have been left out of the story for too long, & it isn’t limited to Christian “Saints.” & it’s BEAUTIFUL. Just watched a lil IGTV video that explains why comic sans is so helpful for people with dyslexia/visual impairments, AND why it’s so annoying to designers (hint: it’s the same reason) & now I’m ready to hear no one ever complain about again. Watch here: instagram.com/tv/CDfSBmQDhHe… ...ready to hear no one ever complain about *it again, ugh

If you are concerned about the actions of a particular Provo, Utah citizen, or by events that took place there recently, you can contact the Provo City council at Council@provo.org, & the Utah County Health Department at the following link: forms.office.com/Pages/Response… If what happened this weekend wasn’t against any rules, it should have been, & the city needs to make new rules 🤷🏻‍♀️ People shouldn’t be allowed to make choices that put hundreds and hundreds of people at risk, no matter how “young/dumb” they are.

Iowa got hit by an “inland hurricane” today & now our power is out & might be for days. I’m turning my phone off in a bit to save the charge but any tips on how to survive 48+ hrs without power?? 🙏🏻🙏🏻 (we have a toddler who drinks 16-24oz of milk every day.....) Thanks for the wedding present @annawenthome !! Image

How do we protect freedom of speech but also truth & correct information? Context: this really long message from a family member who believes COVID is a conspiracy 🙃 I believe in choices & free speech but not...... like this. ImageImageImageImage Do we just need better media literacy training & education so people can recognize truth vs misinformation? I get nervous about censorship because I know it cuts both ways. But I also get nervous about blatant misinformation being spread around 😬😬 but who gets to decide??

I was telling Conor last night that even though *we are poor* I ~still feel sometimes like we “deserve” to be in poverty or that we “chose” this and so we don’t deserve help/aid/accommodations. It’s still so easy to see poverty as a choice or moral failing :/ & while we definitely have loads of privilege that allievates a lot of the stress of poverty, at the end of the day this isn’t “good” poor people vs “bad” poor people. I am working on having more class solidarity & remembering that no one “deserves” to be poor.

Found out late last night the OUR demonstration this weekend is actually a thinly-veiled anti-“defund the police” protest & that they’re co-opting the language of abolition for it & almost woke Conor up to yell about it ImageImageImageImage Instead I just angrily texted @kelseycrist for like an hour & then made an instagram post once again directing people towards @/upwardlydependent, a woman with actual experience & expertise in the field 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ Image

Anyone else doing the exact same thing in the same order every single day & starting to get really bad deja vu/always feel like they’re forgetting something?? I keep feeling like I forgot to pick up my daughter’s free lunch today because I did it yesterday (or was it two days ago? three?) but nope we got it today. And every weekday. At noon. Same place, same time, same day over & over.

Still working through these, and even more convinced that they offer an essential & paradigm-altering perspective worth your time 👇🏻 ps I have added these and a few other books I love & recommend to my Bookshop shop because I genuinely love them & want to help support independent bookstores. It’s an affiliate link; I’ve attached screenshots of their policy & what that means 👍🏻 bookshop.org/shop/cecereads ImageImageImageImage

Only partway through this book but so far it’s been incredibly interesting, informative, and accessible. It’s organized into 1-2 pages answers to questions about the people indigenous to the Americas, so it’s easy to read & digest in small time chunks. Highly, highly recommended. ImageImageImageImage Here are a few pages I’ve found particularly enlightening so far ImageImageImageImage

I’m noticing as I’m reading some of these anti-mask comments that I have to be careful not to accidentally slip into thinking/arguing “actually, masks are good!” Masks are NOT good. They are ~necessary, they are better than the alternative, but masks are not *good* Government mandates to wear masks are not *good.* Disrupting children’s education and having them wear masks all day at school is not *good.* It’s a sign of massive failure. We don’t have any good options.

CW: BMI, “obesity,” bodies, weight

Conor’s job will let him work from home as long as he provides documentation that he lives with someone who is “high risk,” including someone who is “obese,” and since according to the BMI I qualify, I get to submit that info to his work 🙃 fun I don’t ~care if people know that I’m “obese,” since I think that whole system is garbage anyway, but it feels a little weird to have to submit a screenshot of my medical record in order for my husband to be allowed to stay home. What a weird time.
