What do we want? Cheap heat networks. Thats our path to getting off domestic gas. Solar thermal + heat pumps + proper insulation + proper ventilation.

i get the sense that insulation recommendations for britain have just been copied and pasted from elsewhere, with little regard for how mild our climate is

after the first maybe four inches, you're losing maybe half a watt per square metre for every degree difference you want on an exceptionally cold winter's day, it might get down to 0c outside in most of the country. if you have 50 m^2 of loft floor to insulate with rockwool, you're losing 500W to maintain a 20c temperature. double it and you've saved... 250W
