I tried my first Disney+ show ever, Kenobi. Never watched any of the Marvel stuff or the Star Wars stuff. It all looked terrible. But I spotted an interesting trend with Reva I think. Giving characters they want to be sympathetic nuwoke online values…Reva is black excellence… …I think the white people who wrote Kenobi tried to make Reva good black representation but to do so they had to tap into black people they personally knew which I think explains a lot of the character. It’s a weird mix of striverism, selfishness and shallow intersectionality

What is the official biz term for when a corp makes products expected to lose money for prestige reasons like awards (like Oscar bait) or to be considered high art (like jazz) and the profitable lines of the company like movie blockbuster and pop music are there to subsidize it? I thought it was “loss leader” but that’s not quite right because a loss leader is loses money now to hopefully make the company more money later but these things are not expected to make the company money either now or later. They are just pure loss in exchange for intangibles

There’s going to be a reactionary backlash/correction and it’s going to be elder Gen X and older and Gen Z and younger and it’s going to be ugly. Younger Gen X and millenials are going to be really blindsided by it because they stopped being vigilant about it once orange man gone This Johnny Depp/Amber Heard thing and how it was handled in the media and public discourse even by many women was part of this reactionary shift and was a Metoo pushback. The BLM fallout is going to disillusion a lot of people about antiracist activism…

Adrien Brody sexually assaulted Halle Berry without warning on stage with her husband in the audience and everyone acted like it was cute. If him still keeping Oscar, not being asked to leave and getting work to this day doesn’t bother you stop griping about Will’s slap on wrist If a black man helped himself to deep kiss from a beloved white A-list actress without permission on a public stage while her also famous white husband was in the audience that would not have gone same way at all. When he appeared in Succession last season none of y’all were mad

I’m sorry but how is this not the same energy? Lol. Why would she agree to that pic, it’s so cringe Everyone (rightfully) called out this nonsense but all the mainstream websites are pretending this reversal is flattering and cute. In addition I’m also curious how it would be treated if it was a white actor doing this to his white wife?

Watching Euphoria for Thursday’s call-in show. This shit is awful wow. This show so far is like if everyone captured all the trappings of commentary except having a coherent point of view and something to say.

Is it actually legal now to bring dogs into places that serve food or is it something no one enforces anymore because it’s white elites who primarily insist on doing it? Just saw a white bro bring his dog into a Starbucks bathroom. Staff said nothing. That can be legal can it? 😂 I remember when gentrification first started white people would just walk into food places with their dogs and the at the time the business owners would turn them away and eventually had to start putting up signs explaining it was illegal for them to let them in

What kind of lie is this? 🤣 I’m crying 😭 I can’t stop laughing at the people trying hard to pretend they believe his story 😂

This is why white people love intersectionality. Every subgroup of black people is subdivided into its own interest group competing for scraps. In this thread she’s claiming thinking of all black children is equivalent to “all lives matter.” We’re screwed Ah yes, “no true Scotsman”

The whining responses to this are annoying and full of fake decoy reasons to be mad. If Issa Rae or a Black influencer activist did this they’d love it and say it “held space for traditionally marginalized black bodies” or “reclaimed Black excellence” or something Most of the complaints don’t even make sense! Like people complaining it’s glorifying a time of oppression and racial terrorism so that era shouldn’t be depicted. Nigga we living in that now, shut up! Lol

Have you noticed how BLM-inspired modern media involves a black woman being empowered by using the death of a young straight black man, kind of like modern celebrity activists themselves? Candyman, Watchmen, Lovecraft Country, The Hate You Give off the top of my head but I’m a …but I’m sure there are other examples. Candyman, her useless boyfriend does and thanks to that she now gets the power to call forth Candyman to be her personal goon against her enemies. Star in Hate U Give achieves her destiny to be an activism star by her young friend dying

I tried 5 minutes of Euphoria and it’s like someone just made a show out of the type of the posts that romanticized mental illness and self harm on 2014 Tumblr? Maybe I just caught an uncharacteristic 5 mins but I was too icked out to keep watching to find out. The show is definitely not made for modern teens though, teens don’t even live like this anymore

What a dumb characterization of my thread. Kind of proves my point? That guy's whole takeaway was to be like "This guy is just jealous he doesn't have a blue check. All the points in this thread, I'm going to ignore them and say the thread is about blue check deprivation. The answer is to give everyone a blue check." What a moron!

What is happening here wirh Jay Caspian Kang and Ellen Pao is a great example of a mantra I always say: blue checks are more like each other than they are like the majority of people in any of their other identity categories Asian blue checks are more like blue checks of all other races than they are like a majority of your average Asians. Same with black blue checks. They are more like Asian, Latino, white blue checks than they are like other blacks people. And down the line

Dave Chappelle mocking vulnerable people is a bridge too far. I was a fan of when he was mocking crackheads, the hood, prostitutes, blackface, and reparations for descendants of American slaves, but those were black vulnerable people so that's okay. I get people who never liked Chappelle complaining now, but when I see people who admit loving the older stuff getting on a high horse it feels off to me because he was mocking vulnerable people back then too!

This looks so bad and loaded with everything that makes modern online and pop identity politics insufferable. Why do this? What I don’t get though is why not just name it something else? Why do these new “creatives” refuse to make anything new but instead have to rely on borrowed emotional response of things already iconic and beloved for anything they make to get attention or relevance?

This may be most controversial thing I tweeted but...I feel a measure of sympathy for this thread and don't hate it like everyone else. I'd rather people be totally transparent and honest about money they have with hard numbers than deal with secretly rich people cosplaying poor Yeah he's saying a lot of cringey tone-deaf stuff and is grappling clumsily with some hard issues, but admitting all that stuff can't be easy. But I hung out with a lot of bohemian types having adventures in brokeness and they talked a bunch of guillotine talk then they announce

Start here and follow to its conclusion as I and others immediately start searching. Any white guy who praises Asian success as being about high IQ and their freedom to be unPC/racist/xenophobic always ends up being antiblack racist with an Asian partner I struggled to find this last piece of the puzzle, the best I could find was a stay in China on his blog, but this guy had better google skills and found the final piece to complete the @charlesmurray/@dissidentright bingo card

"Death of the Author" is one guy's preference on how to enjoy and discuss art. It's not a natural law like gravity or a proven theory like Theory of Relativity or something. You can't just win an argument by citing it exists. People are allowed to not be swayed by it! Every time there is a debate on a piece of art, someone inevitably comes in with "uh, ever hear of Death of the Author?" like the other person missed the latest scientific development or debunking on a topic they're talking about. It's an opinion not some irrefutable truth lol
