Come along for a quick thread and see what teachers at Taylor Creek Public School (Toronto) did at their last PD day on “Becoming Anti-Racist Educators” (April 8th).

First, they watched a TED talk by an American journalist who refers to Ibram Kendi as a “leading historian”and claims race, as a concept, was “invented” in the 1450s by Portuguese man named Gomes de Zurara.

15:30: “Let me talk in particular to the white folks, for a minute. Once we understand that people who look like us invented the very notion of race, in order to advantage themselves, and us, isn’t it easier to see that it’s our problem to solve? It’s a white people problem.”

According to the GECDSB, “2SLGBTQIA+ students are harmed by absences,” so teachers should be on the look out for “signs of distress” tomorrow.

Teachers are also instructed to welcome students back “without judgement,” as “they may not have had a choice,” or they might have been absent for “other reasons.”
No willingness to engage at all. Label all criticisms and concerns as “hate” that is “causing harm,” and double down. That’s the strategy.

Let me introduce you to “Human rights strategist” Chris D’Souza, who runs $1250.00 - $4500.00 workshops for school boards & other agencies in the GTA.

Apparently he has delivered >5000 equity and inclusion lectures/workshops to “agencies across Canada.” A little math anyone? His workshops are anchored in Critical Race Theory- he says so explicitly.

One is “designed to sharpen administrators’ equity lens”, another is described as “an intense immersion in equity based pedagogy”…

A political ideology being taught as fact, what could go wrong?

Here are some more examples of Ontario schools helping students/staff “unlearn.”

From the unlearn website: “As culturally responsive educators, it is crucial we support students to develop their critical consciousness.”

Now look up “critical consciousness.” 👀 If you look closely at the last one, the students wrote: “the plastic bags represent arent global issues around the world (racism, running out of fossil fuels, climate change) and the older generation is ignorant because they do not have to deal […]”

In a Waterloo region 7th grade English class, pairs of students did a ~5 min presentation on a poster from the company “unlearn.”

They were asked to identify the “issue” addressed in their poster, what we need to “unlearn”, and what can be done to “make change.” Beyond selling woke merchandise and various ressources for teachers, “unlearn” has recently been installing murals in @wrdsb, @GEDSB, @PeelSchools, @tdsb (and more) schools:

Today the City of Ottawa unanimously passed Councillor Troster’s motion against “LGBTQ+ hate.” 🧵

Here she introduces the motion asserting that “ever since the convoy came to visit us” there has been “horrendous hate,” specifically homophobia and transphobia. No proof provided… Troster’s list of reasons for putting forward the motion include: some pro-women, pro-reality stickers were found; some people with opinions she disagrees with led some protests; Shopify sells merch for woke amplification platform @libsoftiktok, etc…
