Gay sexual acts were decriminalised in 67 I'm sure the same arguments about the "gay lobby" or "gay agenda" were made. That young women and vulnerable boys should be protected from "perverts". But the principle of individual rights overruled what was considered "reasonable". The arguments about "reality" or what is considered a "norm" are straw man arguments because we know that these things change but also sometimes we need to go against societies consensus because it is the right thing to do.

How about prison abolition?
Are we okay with working class women being incarcerated for petty crimes? Then we wouldn’t have to worry who was in prison with them in the first place. Is Kathleen Stock about to be imprisoned? Totally irrelevant argument that seems to be okay with locking mostly working class women up.

Omg, This actually makes me sad. 1. this tweet removed that this was a trans girl also a potential hate crime. 2. Gonna assume this was tweeted before checking the facts on 1. 3. It wasn't created by us. It's been used by us and others before. This is the danger in people just firing off things based on what they "assume" to be right. If a moment had been taken instead of reacting then maybe we'd be talking about how the hostile environment created by a right wing government has put all marginalised people in danger.

Oop. The race biology essentialists have now entered the debate about the use of hashtags by those against gender essentialism. 🙃🤣
This is interesting. Race purity vs anti-gender purity. Parts of Afropessimist thinking actually shares similar traits to TERF ideologies when looked at closely. Obsessed with who is “really” Black like TERFs are obsessed with defining womanhood.

Absolutely no Black scholar who I would intellectually respect would think it is okay for anyone to claim ownership over activist movements or hashtags. Those liberal academics out there who say they are about, truth and evidence are doing the complete opposite for likes. What evidence shows that this phrase was invented by Black women? Someone said so on twitter? Cause someone claimed it themselves? How reliable is that? When it’s been used by Sex workers, been used as a tag on here before and in the general milieu of feminist activist language.

All of this hashtag drama would be settled if a lot more people just learnt how to use Twitters advance searches. So, as I did that boring work for you. Besides the dross of people's horror book titles and saying women's name in the bedroom. (2010).... 🧵 In a feminist context relating to violence the earliest use I could find was in a relation tnamed Rehtaeh Parsons (a rape victim) in 2014 before the launch of the campaign what most people are claiming "invented" this tag/chant +

Speaking to directly to Black British women here - y'know the SayHerName tag doesn't include anyone who is not American right?? We ain't included. Cause they don't even say OUR names if we are killed. Let alone now if anything happened to us at all. This is why I don't jump to agree with everything that comes from the across the pond. Like I said - solidarity is not a one way street. We don't need to jump so high when asked to. Ask any of these people if they have heard of Joy Gardner. Was Kamyimsola Olatunjoye name said?

If you can’t pronounce Birmingham correctly I genuinely don’t want to know what your thoughts are right now regarding Brianna Ghey unless it’s one of sadness and solidarity. People are fucking scared right now. Was in conversation with a friend last night who is constantly calling her partner ( a trans woman) on the phone cause she sacred for her safety.

Omg folks I know who Crenshaw is 🤣🤣. Literally wrote my law masters dissertation on intersectionality so know more about her work then most ppl on here. I just naturally assume ppl would know I know that. Come on ppl 🤣🤣🤣 And my conclusion was intersectionality was a liberal take on previous Black socialist feminist work on triple jeopardy/multiple oppressions and the multiple other terms used to describe the same thing.

Folks are more comfortable with big white billionaire owned mega corps saying Black Lives Matter and SayHerName then they are small groups of people holding a vigil for a murdered trans girl because she is white. 😶. The first is “progress”, the second is “erasure”. There are nerves that need to be touched sometimes.

Black brits seem to have forgotten the days when some Americans tried to tell us we were appropriating BLM and had to do it “their way” with no regard for how our organising histories and strategies might need to be different here. Same happened in Australia I believe. I was there. It was enlightening.🤣. A shame! Not reflective of many US folks I have got to know since then but there’s an issue with not knowing anything beyond their own borders even with the credentials. So a kind warning. Agree with this hashtag issue to your own peril. 🤣

How about we analyse every Black movement in the USA for signs of erasure and “appropriation” from other movements? Some of which might be majority non-black? Let’s start with the organising and resistance tactics of Palestinians shall we??? Milk in the eyes? Was that appropriation? Is that property? How about that white German dude? Shall we start sending a cease and desist order for use of the communist manifesto? I think the Spanish anti-fascist movement might want to claim back their raised fist?

I’m sorry but with all that is happening right now whoever in my community turned this into the drama it became is not the type of person I would EVER organise with. It’s Opp behaviour.
It’s embarrassing. And I mean that. If your first thought in all this is “that’s not your hashtag lemme share my ‘concerns’” we may share the same heritage but we are definitely NOT ON THE SAME SIDE. I will not be in solidarity with people, whoever they are,who do this ish.

Just because the history of a movement or slogan doesn’t exist on YouTube or the internet doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Anyone that’s been near anysort of archive or got hold of out of print books knows full welk that activist movements are notoriously not documented very well. The move to take ownership of slogans is a very 21st century move tied to neoliberal “activist” politics and profit.

Comrades. This needs to be sorted and ALL OF YOU that have been breaking your neck to run to ED's defence need to address this. We cannot afford to have this and stop blaming other people for it. Secretary of RMT Black Solidarity Committee
I'm actually quite shocked. Black RMT members have made complaints and you lot want to sit here and act like this is not a problem??? Check in with yourselves! These are your comrades fgs!

We aren’t gonna win anything if we keep throwing people under a bus!
Nor if we are so arrogant to expect people to just fall in line and be quiet whilst folks are laughing behind our backs and trying to dismiss our bloody lives which directly affects our material realities! I also dunno why there’s a reframing of “not being a dick to POC and Queers” as “Middle class liberalism”. Cause what exactly is the liberalism being discussed here? Trans rights?

Not the Brown girls in the ring being wheeled out to tell other POC and queers we should stop complaining?
Using ID politics to support a man who doesn’t like ID politics?
What a farce. Ancestors are rolling and screaming as we speak. Literally, why are you not having that difficult conversation BEFORE the right wing media had a chance?? Are we just gonna talk about racism and those make apologies for it in the abstract like it doesn’t apply to our own comrades??

Hearing the announcements on the overground to discourage people from giving unhoused people small change. It’s not anyone’s business what unhoused people do with the money they are given. It’s winter and people find ways to cope which may be detrimental to their well being but+ That is the fault of the government and society. No one should be in situation where they don’t have a warm bed to go to at night. These announcements by @TfL are a disgusting criminalisation of people who have been let down by society.

Most Brit’s are royalist because they have been indoctrinated since birth to believe that the class system and aristocracy is a valid way to structure society, regardless of whatever feelings they have about meritocracy. We are subjects not citizens. Once you understand that the Crown is an institution that goes beyond the Queen, it owns the very land we walk on we just have permission, then you realise that we serve them they don’t serve us. They have no ‘duty’ to us their ‘duty’ is to protect the Crown and it’s position.

BAME Labour is a ghost organisation that does what white ppl want it to do so of course this was gonna be voted down. White Labour can’t afford to lose it’s willing tokens. FURIOUS!!!!
Well done to the GV5 for trying tho. This means the news ‘BAME’ structure is just going to be micromanaged like a puppet. Held back and another crony arm for the Labour right to squash any voice from the Black left.
