Opinions all my very own. I have lots. She/Her. Chief of Staff to Chesa Boudin and couldn't be prouder. We have already won.

Last week, some media outlets breathlessly reported that new staff coming to the SFDA's office was "all female," implicitly suggesting this is a good, progressive thing, in & of itself.
It is not.
Mass incarceration, in all its manifestations, is a deeply anti-feminist project.
The framing was mocked & not only b/c Breed/Jenkins fired multiple women. (Literally the 1st person fired was an LGBTQ WOC heading the resentencing unit.)
It was mocked b/c people recognized what the SFChron didn't: representation is used to mask deeply inhumane policies.

The resentencing/innocence commission unit: gone. Police accountability: gone. Data and transparency: gone. Political corruption investigation: gone. Champion for victims and children: demoted.
Champion for humane, hugely-popular and successful treatment programs: gone. Latino/a outreach: gone. Support for trafficked children: gone.

In 30 months, we reduced the jail pop. by 38%. We reduced the SF prison pop. by 35%. We stopped charging kids as adults and reduced the # of kids in jail by 50%. We have seen victims forgive and those who harmed atone. All while violent crime has gone down.
