Let's do a quick NFT market thread now that I'm back from Marfa. We're going to look at Squiggles and the roles of Whales, Funds, Fans and Opportunists in price behavior 🧵
It was a matter of when, not if, people would remember the Squiggles fondly. They serve as a barometer for the entire NFT market in a slightly different way then Punks. Namely price point (1/8th cheaper is a ballpark ratio) and its specificity as the gen art logo.

There are choices projects make which are right and necessary at the time they are made, but whose effectiveness is a matter of timing + how many other companies take the same path.
Effectively you're probably damned if you don't, but are also damned if too many others do too.🧵
I hated these decisions because being first was the only way to get some guaranteed benefit from the move, but that gain would get immediately clipped the second the next guy did it, then clipped again once the third guy did it and so on and so forth.

the commodification of chain airdrop strip mining is resulting in poorer nutrient levels at shallower extraction depths in a way that suggests crypto is undergoing an accelerationist anthropocene event
ecosystems have limiting nutrients that bind their growth. most of that is recycled through natural activity governed by time.
opening ecosystems to large scale agrilogistic style value extraction before renewal processes are in place leaves less depth & yield in the land.

NFT Market Content: How I think three dates have us in a holding pattern in the fine art & generative categories. 🧵
The first two dates: 6/23/17 & 3/14/23.
The period between the launch of punks and the launch of GPT-4 are what I now consider to be the golden age of NFTs.
This thread covers that thesis, I'm now extending out the end point to GPT-4 launch.
A highly speculative ramble on frogger, neoliberalism, and the state processing the "personal" trauma of the Capital attack via Chokepoint 2.0 🧵
Something this morning reminded me that the city I grew up in (Quincy, MA) was basically a zombieland for a decade thanks to the opiate crisis. I barely ever think about this, partially because I escaped it.

The Golden Age of NFTs (2017-2022) Thesis:
A 🧵in which I prematurely call the end of high value NFTs as we switch to them simply being entertainment...
Real simple: NFTs are a form of entertainment. For them to achieve mass adoption, they need to be priced as entertainment not as investment vehicles.

Generative AI, Crypto & Social Creator Networks. Breaking out my 🔮 to predict what's next. 🧵...
A couple caveats to kick off...
1. This is not the only direction, just the one I can conceive & am fascinated by.
2. To not repeat myself, I'll be linking to other threads I've written touching these subjects.

Thoughts on NFT marketplaces: M&A + evolving past active counterparty sales...🧵
Warning: This is going to be a bit of a ramble as I haven't firmed up my thoughts here.
M&A - I was pretty confused by recent activity.
Thought the aggregator tools (Gem & Genie) both sold too soon. My hunch is those sales were founders preferring cash outs + working within established orgs vs going it alone.
