The hero cults of classical antiquity are alive and well, with new ones blossoming and withering every thirty minutes. The cult of celebrities, mascots, pansexual spokesthings and cultural idols of every cloth are available in all colors, sizes, shapes and smells.
The difference is there is no Heraclean challenges set by the cult leaders, no standards, no identifiable goals or metaphysic, no cosmology, no philosophical ideation, nothing really, except an endless stream of consumer incentives.
