During my decade at @cbcradio’s The Sunday Edition (with Michael Enright), the crew worked weekends/holidays to cover significant breaking news in meaningful ways.

CBC managers blew up the program after Michael stepped down as host, and renamed it Sunday Morning. @cbcsunday 1/4 They insisted the program needed to broadcast live every Sunday morning, to be “more responsive.”

There’s been little sign of that. The host reads the promos live at the top of the program, but seldom conducts live interviews. 2/4

1/ April 24, 1915 marked the beginning of Turkey’s genocide of ethnic Armenians. My great-grandparents, who lived in the town of Van, buried their young daughter, my grandmother, in their yard to protect her. They gave her a small hole through which she could breathe. 2/ The Turks slaughtered her parents. She later walked to a nearby convent, where the nuns raised her, in safety.

She never knew her extended family, and she didn’t even know her birthday.

This was @donya_z's last week @cbcradio. It's a big loss for the public broadcaster, and a major win for @CanadiansOrg, where she'll start work soon.

Donya was a colleague at The Sunday Edition, hosted by Michael Enright, and stayed (after I left) to work on @CBCSunday. 1/5 She produced memorable documentaries about Canadians who abandoned their PhDs; about others who earned their PhD late in life; and about the medical trend of egg freezing.

She created hour-long specials, such as one about the 40th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution. 2/5

Has quality diminished @CBCNews due to funding cuts and management's focus on expanding the digital news service?

@CRTCeng asked the CBC president and VP that question last month @CRTCHearings.

This thread reveals the disturbing disconnect between their replies and reality. @PresidentCBCRC said: “Absolutely no impact (on quality)...the proof is in the pudding and we are delivering historically on pretty well all our obligations in the area of news. We have done extraordinary expansion within - with very, very meaningful impact.”
