Let's illustrate the Kings Fund report with examples of why our health system and #primarycare funding is broken
A thread 🧵
Note: adequate staffing guide is 1 GP session per 200 patient
Compare 2 GP practices, 10k patients each, same health board, 20 miles apart
Practice A - least deprived area, regularly has 2 GP trainees (ST3), all GPs are partners, busy but stable. Haven't explored ACP roles etc as they haven't needed to. No major issues with access
They provide 40-45 clinical sessions (guide for practice this size would be 50+)

Putting my head above the parapet...
Some PERSONAL thoughts and views on the issue of #physicianassociates (and non-GP clinicians in extended roles in general) in #primarycare...
🧵
(NOTE - this is specific to Wales. We don't have ARRS)

GPs have 2 levels of regulation to work
GMC - fitness to practice
MPL - fitness for *purpose*(as a GP)
I would love to have suitably qualified SAS Drs in GP, with a well defined scope - but this needs change in law/regulations (specifically the MPL and some contract stuff)

The media is putting more focus on #NHSCrisis
You see reports from wards, hospitals, Emergency Departments, Ambulances of the immense pressures faced by my colleagues in secondary care
But what does this crisis look like in #primarycare?
A thread 🧵...
I've been a GP for 15 years
GP + #primarycare has always been busy
Balancing access, demand + capacity has always been a challenge
But honestly, things are different now.
We don't have trollies in corridors or ambulances queuing outside.
But this doesn't mean there's no #GPCrisis
