The Dallas Freedmens cemetery is one of the largest in the country, originally established in 1869. The remnants of the original cemetery were destroyed after the construction of the Central Expressway. It’s construction displaced many AAs in Dallas

During slavery, when entering the church, a slave was required to put on a pair of white gloves. Whites believed that it was a “sin” for blacks to touch something of theirs. Blacks would also work in the church as ushers. So on top of whites believing it was a sin for blacks to touch anything in the church, they also didnt trust them w/ the collection plate, therefore requiring them to hold one hand behind their back

She was the founder of Poro Beauty & Poro Cosmetology school in St. Louis. She provided black women with their first true hair renaissance. Poro is a West African secret society and the word means physical & spiritual growth

She came up w/ multiple revolutionary hair products such as the liquid shampoos & hair straightener (Wonderful Hair Grower).
